If you've had any experience using the GH guitars, the RB guitar is a lot different and IMO sucks pretty hard. Also, I've heard of the pedal from the drum set snapping off quite a bit, just be wary

When we have people over they are always wanting to go downstairs and play rock band. What's great is when they get drunk and start singing.

In the reviews I read, some said the GH guitar was better and some other like the RB guitar. And as far as durability, I think I'll just keep in mind that all of these items are toys and not meant to be beaten on with the full force of say, a real drum set.
My real decision maker here was the ability to get more people involved at once. RB gives that right out of the box.

Consider buying a REAL guitar and learning to play it. If you are that motivated to rock out perhaps you will learn to play and end up gaining a life time of enjoyment out of music instead of using your time to play a freakin video game. BOOO! BOOO! I'm not a fan of this post. This thread wasn't started to weight the options of playing a video game vs. playing a real guitar. If you want to talk real guitars, start a new thread.

- I see there is a wireless controller or wired controller. I would prefer to be wireless but I read some bad reviews on Best Buy.com about the wireless controller. Which is best?
- Lastly, if I get a PS3 later, can I use the same controller?
I think this might be the first game ever that my wife would play too. I can actually see this being fun for social occasions too. We had a sony spokesperson come to our store last week (I work at best buy) and she said sony has no intention on stopping production of the PS2 or PS2 games for the next couple of years because it is their highest revenue builder behind the PS3. Also, I would highly suggest getting rock band, it is only 99.99 right now (versus 159.99 as it's origanal price) at best buy. Not sure how long this deal will last but you should take advantage of it.
Also, I believe the bundle kit for GH for PS2 costs 79.99, so you are only paying 20 more dollars for the additional drums and microphone. Also, rock band is constantly coming out with new songs that can be downloaded via internet connection.

I just wanted a way to get people involved and doing something when we have visitors or a party rather than playing board games or just sitting around listening to music. Why not make your own music. And, yes, the singing part doesn't appeal to me now, but wait until after a few drinks.

Is Rock Band for the Wii worth the 200+ bucks?

It even has a USB hub, I'm told, so you don't need to buy one yourself. I paid $99 with free shipping. Sounds like a lot of fun for $99. If my wife and I go out to eat and then to a bar for a few drinks, we'd spend that.

I don't know if anyone is in the market but this seems like a good deal. Rock Band Special Edition for Sony PlayStation 2 - Electronic Arts - Toys "R" Us
At toysrus.com they are running a promotion for the PS2 version of Rockband. If you put Rockband and a PS2 in your cart the PS2 will drop down in price from $129.99 to $39.99. Don't forget the 5 off 25 coupon code 922562. Bringing the total price down with shipping and before tax to $153.22. Save an extra $15.00 if you use the bill me later option.

Dmclone, major props to you. Rockband is a huge hit at my house. My wife LOVES the drums, as I suspected she would. I prefer the guitar.
One question, though: What level do people play on? I play on Medium and it is about all I can handle. I suppose I've only put a few hours into now so I can't expect to be great, but I played "hard" and it looked impossible to me. I cant' even imagine playing that quickly.
Fun, fun game though. I'm very impressed with the equipment.

just wait for guitar hero world tour to come out later this year, it will blow rock band away. you will be able to create your own songs and it will have a much more realistic drum set
