Guitar Hero

I'm thinking about getting this game. A few questions for you gaming experts out there (I used to be one before the kid):

- I have a PS2. Are the latest games still coming out for PS2? Or, maybe a better question is what is the best version I can buy for PS2?
- I see there is a wireless controller or wired controller. I would prefer to be wireless but I read some bad reviews on Best Buy.com about the wireless controller. Which is best?
- Lastly, if I get a PS3 later, can I use the same controller?

I think this might be the first game ever that my wife would play too. I can actually see this being fun for social occasions too.

Re: Guitar Hero

If you get a PS3, you have to get new guitars. Found that out the hard way. You can get the games for PS2, and your liking of each games will depend on how many songs you like between 1,2,3, and Rocks the 80s (I think those are available for PS2).

If you get a PS3, screw Guitar Hero and get Rock Band. More expensive, but also a lot more fun.

Re: Guitar Hero

It's a different controller for the PS3.

You may want to consider Rock Band as well. We have both in our house, and Rock Band gets a lot more play than GH.

So the PS2 guitar won't work on the PS3? I'll probably get a PS3 but not until the weather gets cold and there aren't things to do outside.

Good idea. PS3 is overrated IMO. Wait til there is a better library of games before buying.

I am holding off on Rock Band and waiting for Guitar Hero: World Tour. It has the same instruments as Rock Band (guitar, drums, mic) but the drums will be better. They are going to have elevated cymbals. It is coming out this fall, I believe in October.

I am not trying to be THAT guy and I know this has been said before, but here goes anyway.

Consider buying a REAL guitar and learning to play it. If you are that motivated to rock out perhaps you will learn to play and end up gaining a life time of enjoyment out of music instead of using your time to play a freakin video game.

And I've said this before, I have and I do (it was one of those things my friends did in college and I wanted to learn how to play, so I did, although I'm not exactly great at it)

Oh, I also took your "advice" from another thread (although it wasn't exactly advice, more you swearing by it) and purchased an Epiphone Les Paul. I've only owned it for a week and already I say it's by far the best guitar I've ever played/owned.

I love my Epiphone for several reasons.

1. The tone I get out of it combined with my Hod Rod Deluxe is freaking sweet.
2. I gig. That is why I bought the Epiphone. I wanted the tone/sustain/looks but didn't want to worry about a $3,000+ Gibson getting beer spilled on it, dropped, knocked over, etc, etc, etc.

You can't get a better guitar for the money IMO.

Re: Guitar Hero

In my opinion, when the Guitar Hero franchise was sold from Harmonix to Neversoft, it lost a lot of the charm that made it so great. GH3, while still a good game, did little to advance the series. It was basically the same as GH2, but with a new coat of paint, some new songs and a new guitar to buy. While the wireless guitar was a nice addition, it was pretty obvious that Neversoft was far more interested in cashing in on the Guitar Hero name than it was on producing a great game. Harmonix, on the other hand went on to produce Rock Band which, in my opinion, is the defining game in the genre. Tons of customization options, much more depth, more instruments, etc. One really only needs to look at the number of additional songs available for download on Rock Band and compare it to those available for Guitar Hero. RB comes out with at least 3 new songs every week, sometimes more. GH gets Velvet Revolver. Nuff said.

I don't think that playing Guitar Hero necessarily means that you can't gain a lifetime of enjoyment out of music. I play Guitar Hero, but I also have an appreciation for all kinds of music, (both Country and Western) I play a mean Kazoo, and I've been told that my singing voice is the reincarnation of Etta James.
