Re: White Sox Announcers

Like that drunk Harry Caray was better. I know he is regarded as a great but he was brutal when I watched him (near the end). I liked it better when the Hawk wasnt with DJ, he needs the "wimparoo" back (Tom Paciorek). He Gone, Mercy, and you can put it on the board are all Hawks lines, they are even used on ESPN so you know they are good. Kind of like "Boom goes the Dynamite"...great video.

I like Santo for some of the same reasons I liked Harry. He says crazy, emotional things and it is entertaining.

Yeah, Hawk and Wimpy were pretty good. I don't love Hawk, but at least he has a style.

Re: White Sox Announcers

They're the White Sox announcers. They're not doing the national broadcast on Fox. All local announcers are biased towards their team because they're also fans.

I love the Cubs fans chirping here. They had a great announcer (Harry Caray) when he was well past his prime after his stroke, and was nothing like the old Caray who was the absolute best to ever call a game. I used to just cringe when I'd hear him call a Cubs game because he became a parody of himself. Growing up listening to him do White Sox games was a real treat. Of course, most Cubs fans have no clue that he actually announced for any team but the Cubs. I believe he did Cardinals games before the Sox.

Steve Stone and Ed Farmer, who are the White Sox' radio guys are also outstanding

The worst announcer ever is Chip Caray. I believe his eyebrows actually grow during the game.

Great couple of announcers there. 55 seconds of silence at the end of the game. Yeah, they lost, and they hate losing, but to stay silent for 55 seconds?

They sound like the Hawkeye announcers, " The Hawkeyes pull out a nailbiter against a good, young, fast, BLAH, BLAH, Ball State team".

I can understand the Sox fans being annoyed with the Cub fans here, but I think there are many Sox fans who also are not a big fan of Hawk. But again, he adds character to baseball announcing, which is what local guys should do.

Id have to agree, Ill watch a game with the Sox playing, then I hear that and its like my goodness, Ive heard enough of that, and about the time he says yes, I go and change the channel

Every time I learn something new, something old gets pushed out of my brain

That was excellent. The crowd roaring over the silence.

The guy was already talking when the broadcast began and he talked straight through the first commercial break and didn't even stop. It went something like this:

"...great day today it's beautiful and the sun is shining and today the Dodgers will face the St. Louis Cardinals who are led by their superstar Albert Pujols who hits lots of home runs and it reminds me of that time when I was a youngster and went to the store to pick up some oranges, which we called lemons at the time, and anyway Albert Pujols is good at hitting and we'll be right back after these messages with the first pitch, which used to be called snarfblasters back in the day and anyway back to my story..."
You've just forfeited your right to comment on MLB. That "old guy" is Vin Scully who's been doing Dodger games since they were in Brooklyn. Oh ya, he's done plenty of All-Star and World Series games too. Not to mention NFC championship games.

Vin Scully has been calling baseball games since Peter Gammons was in his nineties. That's almost 60 years to you and me, Russ.
