Cedar Rapids - $1 billion in damages . . .

This Wall Street Journal article was written by The Gazette's Mike Hlas, its longtime sports columnist.

It is the most profound coverage of the flooding that I've seen or read. Thought some here might appreciate the link to the WRJ story.

Re: Cedar Rapids - $1 billion in damages . . .

I drove through the Czech-Village part of CR yesterday on my way to help a close friend who had several feet of water in his home. The devastation there cannnot be put into words and I doubt photos would convey the feel. Absolutely shocking and horribly sad. Huge piles of what amounts to peoples lives on the curbs in front of their ravaged homes. Garages that were rippped loose and now sitting upside-down a block away, decks and porches in the streets and neighbors lawns. It's just beyond words. My heart was ripped from my chest seeing the carnage and feeling for the belongings and memories these people have lost.

Yeah, I just read the other day that statewide agricultural damage/loss is estimated at $2.7 to $3.1 billion, and property damage/loss is between $3 and $3.5 billion... That makes me sad.
