Anybody run Grandma's Marathon yesterday?
Just curious if anyone else was up in Duluth yesterday for Grandma's Marathon... I ran it for the 3rd time, but hadn't run a marathon in 4 years. My personal best was 4:36 and this year the first 13.1 miles went great and I ran that in 2:00 but then it got hot and I battled leg cramps from mile 14 on and finished in 4:57.

4:57 is a pretty respectable marathon time. Heck crossing that line under your own power is respectable. My two marathon times at 4:33 and 4:50, so we should run together sometime!

A Buddy of mine ran it (he lives in Rochester now) for the first time. Said he finished it, but I don't know what his time was.

If by 'ran the Grandma's Marathon' you mean 'was up in Duluth drinking heavily watching others run', then yes, I was there. -
Re: Anybody run Grandma's Marathon yesterday?
My sister-in-law ran it - pretty comparable times, I think. She was a little sore today! Duluth is such a hilly town!

Re: Anybody run Grandma's Marathon yesterday?
I'm glad to see the interest in distance running even though I haven't done it in a while. My personal best marathon was the 1989 Detroit Free Press in 3:52. I was forty-five so you guys still have time to post a better time.
By the way, that was my first marathon and my last was not quite a year later at the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle. That was a death march as the temperature got into the low 90's, no clouds, and they ran out of cups so you had to take water from a hose. No severe injuries from the runners but a spectator fell off a curb and twisted an ankle.

The worst thing about it was I was in far better shape than the year before when I ran a 2:08, 2:26.

I'm thinking about doing Des Moines too... Although it's the day after the Nebraska game :-( Ran DSM in 2003 in 4:41 and I remember it being really hilly but a decent course overall.

DM is hilly at the beginning, you have to run from downtown to DM university, and then up and down the hills south of grand for about 5 miles. Then you come out and head up to drake which is also nothing but hills. Once you hit the half way point over by drake, it is a long nice downhill and then totally flat from then on.
