Canada might outlaw spanking kids

A proposed law that could see parents charged for spanking their children is heading to the House of Commons after clearing a major hurdle in the Senate.

No corporal punishment would be allowed, either by an educator, the mother, the father or someone acting for them.

So a country with a national sport where beating the hell out of each other is part of the game, doesn't want their kids spanked?

So they will just get around this by making there kids put on some hockey gear and then checking them up against the walls?

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

Well Canada is going to go to **** even more now... if possible

Seriously though thats pretty bad... Spanking didn't do any lasting damage to me.

In fact, someone should investigate the damage done by not spanking a child...

How would they even try and enforce this law???

2 yo Jon say dad spanked him
30 yo Dad says no

So does will a cop have to go along with the 2 yo??

I agree with Flag Guy - there is much more damage done by not spanking.

You know this goes right along with the 10 year old girl suing to have her grounding over-ruled...

Disagree...more damage is done by not disciplining. You can discipline without spanking.

I'd bet dollars to donuts Celine Dion wasn't spanked...

My dad says, “A kid doesn’t go bad because you beat him. A kid goes bad because you stop beating him.”

In all seriousness – kids need a good hard spanking on occasion. “Time Out” is not enough. This is not an issue lawmakers should be getting involved in – Canada or anywhere else.

Again, I respectfully disagree. My kids have never been spanked, never will, and they are perfectly normal, respectful, well-behaved, etc. Done right, you can discipline without spanking.

I'm kinda between these statements. My parents knew that if they really wanted to punish me that all they had to do was cut the power to my room. No Commodore64, no NES, no TV, no stereo, no light to read books very well.
At the same time I was spanked, just not very often. Maybe 15-20 times growing up. BUT when I did get spanked I KNEW that I had messed up BIG TIME and never thought twice about doing whatever it was that I did to get the spanking.

I don't remember my dad ever laying a finger on me. But I was also the youngest of 4. The memory of seeing them get tanned was enough to keep my nose clean.
