right on... glad to hear folks down there are transitioning to more efficient cars. I take the RTD bus from Boulder to Golden most days and from what I've observed, ridership has nearly doubled based on the availability of seats when I get on the bus. Not very scientific but just from my observations, public trans around here is booming.
I take the Light Rail every morning. I agree, based on my own observations, that ridership is going WAY up. Unfortunately, RTD is now threatening to reduce train and some bus service due to gas costs.
I am surprised that there are so many gas guzzlers in the People's Republic of Boulder...

kinda ironic, isn't it? granted my observations are on the boulder turnpike, the city of boulder, and hwy 93, so I can't be for sure that all of those SUVs are driven by boulder residents (people commute like crazy all over the front range).... but it's all part of the image in boulder as well... --> SUV with ski rack, bike rack, and cargo box, bumper stickers that include "free tibet" and "Dog is my co-pilot" and the cell-phone chatting trust-fund hottie in the driver seat.
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
Don't be scared. There are so many realistic options out there right now that don't require huge technology leaps.

Natural Gas
Wind

Natural Gas (LP) run automobiles are a very viable option that doesn't get talked about enough, IMO. And don't get me started on diesel....
I hope you're right - in fact, I know you're right. I just hope that the initiative is taken. I read an article by one of the Kennedy kids a few years back (I forget which one - once I get past the three brothers I get confused). Anyway, he was asserting at the time that in increase of 7 mpg in all cars driven in the US would eliminate the dependence on foreign oil. Big words and a big claim, and things I know little about. But it struck me that if we were truly that close, whether it's efficiency, new technology, whatever - that we weren't taking those steps.
