Who's going?
I broke a spoke last night and the bike shops are so backed up over in CR its going to take until Thursday to get it back - so I guess I'm done training!
Sounds like Day 2 is the devil.
"... lots of climbing with seemingly no downhill makes day 2's eighty five miles brutal." - a poster on Ragbrai.org
I noticed Tim Cavanaugh is the main act on Friday night, that'll be interesting, I'm usually about worn out on bands anyway by that point so a comedian might be a good time.

Probably won't ride until Jefferson to Ames and then the next day... Really don't feel like playing in the hills the first couple of days. All the people I know ride on either Team Joker or Team Checker. Alot of great people on each team...

We're unveiling new jerseys this year for Team Nuts & Honeys
My uncle & cousin ride for Team Checker & we drank in a Caseys parking lot with some of the Team Joker members a few years back.

I'm riding and I can't wait for a week of biking and beer. I really want to do the century on day 2, but it looks hard enough w/o it. Will probably wait and see what the winds and weather are doing that day before I decide.

I'm riding the whole week. First time too. Should be quite the experience.
Out of curiosity, how many miles did you log while training clones_jer?

Out of curiosity, how many miles did you log while training clones_jer? I'm at ~ 400 for the year ... I usually try to get at least 500, but its been such a pain of a spring/summer over here in Cedar Rapids that its put a cramp in my plans.
I've ridden the last 6-7 years and have had as many as 1000 miles to as little as 0 in preparation. Of course the 0 year was when I was in college and was still in some semblance of "shape".
It's gonna suck this year, I'm pounds up and training down but I always look around and see the 85 year old grandma doing it so I figure I have to keep going.
never walked a hill! - that sounds cheesey, but its all that's kept me going sometimes is knowing I've never given up before.

I will be out there all week with Team Petting Zoo!! Just got done riding 120 miles this weekend (from east Des Moines to Montezuma and back). Sunday was about 50 miles into a head wind with many rollers, so I think we're ready for day 2, or so I hope. Nothing can be as bad as day 2 in 2006 though, I wanted to shoot myself about halfway between Manning and Audubon. I'm pretty sure almost everybody on the ride that day did as well...
I've done the last 3 RAGBRAI's in their entirety and am doing this same this year.

As long as we're talking RAGBRAI, what was everybody's sweetest party experience from the ride. I heard that Jesup last year was quite the experience, unfortunately we didn't make it through there. West Union in 2005 would have to be the craziest party I've ever been too, anybody else attend that one (at someplace called the Roadhouse or something like that)??

I've done the last 3 RAGBRAI's in their entirety and am doing this same this year. That was the day without any water, high temps and the hella-strong headwind from the south right?
I remember getting to the corner where you finally turned east to finish out the day and there were like a 1000 people laying down resting (dieing?) at some farm place that was providing water.
It was one of those where you get off your bike and you're dizzy-tired.

All the towns kindof run together for me. But there was a party in some starting town a few years back where a naked guy climbed a tent pole to try to put his team sticker at the top - he fell once he got to the top and took out a sting of christmas tree lights on the way down with his crack ... that was also the night I stumbled into the wrong house (not our hosts) after the bars ... awkward.

It was one of those where you get off your bike and you're dizzy-tired. That would be the day, the only day ever that I actually thought about walking MY bike up a hill. Rollers, 20-25 mph head wind, 100 degree weather do NOT make a good biking combination.

If I had more than 2 weeks vacation I would definately do RAGBRAI, but as it is I just can't justify a week's vacation for it.

I'll be doing the whole thing again this year. Should be another memorable weeklong party.

I'm helping to coordinate RAGBRAI for North Liberty, so let me know if I can answer any questions or provide info.
