CDC Obesity Data by state for 2007

Here is the latest obesity data a state rankings.

BRFSS Prevalence Data - List of All States

CO remains the only state with an obesity rate under 20%.

Southern states led the way with several states over 30% obesity rate: AL, MS, LA, and TN.

Not in CO anymore but I'm not changing my name :)

26% Nationwide?

1 in 4 Americans are obese? Yikes that's a frightening statistic

I was at a scout parent night for camp last night. I was amazed how many parents and several scouts were severely over weight.

Nevermind that BMI is a crock and that pretty much every pro athlete would be "obese" by it's standards. Of course they are largely the exception, but any system that would lump Michael Jordan with Rosie O'Donnell in terms of fitness is highly questionable, IMO.

Yea I wouldn't disagree. My BMI is 25.1 so technically I'm overweight but I'm in the best shape I've been in for a long time. However the BMI is pretty accurate as a whole.

Also, Mississippi is 32.6% obese. Ew

Exactly. Back in the day when Evander Holyfield was champ, he was considered obese by these standards.

I went to Burger King for the first time in ages to try that new sandwich they are advertising. I couldn't believe the "magnitude" of the people that came in there. Even though I could stand to lose quite a few pounds, it made me feel like I didn't belong next to those "double-wides".

BTW, I will not be a repeat purchaser of the sandwich.

Throw BMI out and just look around you. The amount of overweight people is just alarming. Sometimes I feel like the only person that cares about taking care of themself.

That freakin' loaded baked potato burger thing they've been advertising?

My cholesterol goes up 5 points whenever I see them build that thing in the commercial

I make no excuses for the fact that I live in a country where high quality food is cheap and easy to get. And that I am able to work a job that is inside and sedentary working on computers. Look at the photos from the dustbowl, you'll see "fit" people. I prefer the easy life and fine dining. A country that is over weight is a prosperous one.

At 6'1, 226 pounds is considered obese. I know a few guys that are 6'1 226 or more and they are ripped.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Physicians combine a patient's BMI with waist circumference (WC) to determine individual obesity. The BMI is a very accurate barometer for the average person. Ask any doctor. For those athletic people in the "outlier group," WC is also used.
As some have said, look around you. Look at coaches, for god's sake, who are supposed to be leaders. And I'm not just talking about Mangino - we have a couple on our own FB staff.

Right but your average person at 6'1 226 is not ripped, they're just fat. The BMI is good for looking at a whole cross section, there will always be people that don't fit the mold
