Does anyone make a list of things that you want to do; I mean fun things not just professional/monetary goals?
I think that everyone should make such a list and then keep track of how many items on your list you have accomplished.

I don't break my life into "work" and "fun", as I find the work that I want to do to be "fun".
I really, really want to make a major revision to an existing airframe and produce it, for fun.
I also want to max the 18 year old standards on the Army Physical Fitness Test.
Before I die, I want to sail/row a boat down the Mississippi, through the Gulf of Mexico, up the Intercoastal waterway, through the Saint Lawrence Seaway to the Great Lakes, down the Illinois-Michigan canal and back to the Mississippi. It's a continuous loop that would be possible, but difficult to do.
Here is an abridged list - all items are incomplete.
- "Eliminate" Celine Dion
- Spell "bang" without "Ang"
- Remember the length of a cubit
- Draw a perfect circle freehand
- Obtain rare copy of NKOTB performance from MTV's Unplugged
- Feng Shui my living room with Banarama paraphernalia
- Explain to Keanu Reeves that he can now get out of character from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
places to visit
mountains to ride
books to read (this is the hardest)
Travel. When I was younger, going places seemed secondary to buying things that were concrete. Now I want to see the coolest places in the world.
I want to bicycle.....through several continents.
Bingo. Memories are so much better than possessions. I like nice stuff and all, but after just moving, I found out that the stuff you own does indeed own you.
I have pretty much been to most the US. At least all the cool parts. Lived in California for 6 years. I have been to an NBA final game, NCAA championship football game, and a World Series clinching game. I would like to go to a SuperBowl and the NCAA basketball game, but I am waiting for the Vikes or Clones to deliver.
I agree that making a list is a great helper. Nice motivation. As of now, I love living back in Iowa. People are great here. Family and friends are here. I still travel occasionally, which is fun. Key thing is to find something that makes you happy, and realize that no matter how bad things get, they could always be worse, and will probably get better before long.
There are a lot of books still to read, and I still need to see Neil Diamond and Led Zeppelin in concert (no, not together silly, although that would rock!)
Phaedrus has a good idea, but just stick to the Caribbean man. I guess sailing and boozing from island to island is a blast, like a constant roving tailgate.
