I am going out on a limb here, but I am guessing the lawnmower was the first thing that he had shot in a long time that didn't come in a brown bottle.

Shooting lawn mowers is an old tradition documented in the movie Straight (sp?) Story. For those who don't remember, Straight was the Iowan who did not have a driver's license so drove a riding lawn mower from his Iowa home to his brother's home in Minnesota. First lawn mower crapped out so he had it drug back to his backyard where he shot it with his shotgun. In the beginning of the movie, his daughter finds him unconscious on his kitchen floor. She takes him to a doctor only after he gets an agreement that he won't have to take his clothes off or answer any questions. Sounds like some of the older guys I know. Worse is the fact that they are starting to make sense to me.

On a side note though... it is his lawn and lawn mower... so while I certainly wouldn't want to live next someone like that, I can't say it's worth arresting him over...

Of course he was arrested for owning an illegal firearm and being drunk while doing stupid ****, so I guess thats a different story

Back when I was still delivering pizza in Newton, I used to deliver to the Straight house on a regular basis.

They were the cheapest, non-tipping bunch of inbred morons in the world. And they complained each and every time, so they would get a free pizza.

When I heard they made a movie about that idiot, I wanted to vomit. I STILL haven't seen that complete waste of celluloid.
