I think he deserved it. He should have been in a car and he would have been fine.

Re: Policeman vs. cyclist
I don't know why any cop would do that without a reason. Either there is more going on that we don't know about, or that cop has some serious anger issues and needs to be caned.

Re: Bicycle Crash/Policeman vs. cyclist
What I saw was a bunch of critical mass jerkoffs obstructing traffic. What I didn't see is the cops arresting some of them, which they deserved.
If the dude was asked to stop by the cops, I got no problem with him being taken out.
Apparently, when you ride a bicycle, you get some kind of powers that make your actions beyond reproach.

No, when you are on a bicycle you are given the same priveliges and subject to the same laws as a motor vehicle. That includes having the right to not be arbitrarily assaulted by a police officer who subsequently arrests you and falsifies a police report so that you are charged with a crime you did not commit.
As mentioned, I am not a fan of critical mass bike rides, but they are not illegal as far as I know. I'm not clear how you reconcile in your mind the idea that people obeying laws as they are currently written should be arrested.

Re: Bicycle Crash/Policeman vs. cyclist
Well that police report is bogus, "made a clear attempt to run into the officer". Rightttttttttttt.

Re: Bicycle Crash/Policeman vs. cyclist
The bikers were changing lanes without signaling and the cop was trying to stop one from breaking anymore laws...
We've all seem de-cleaters, this was a de-wheeler Pretty good form, good follow through...I give it an 8.7. It would have been in the 9's, but he didn't lower his hips enough...

Have you ever been to New York? He was just saying hello and asking how the ride was going.

I am so thankful that personal video recording devices are so accessible to the public. Had someone not recorded this, it would have been the cyclist's word against the cop's. I'm not a police hater, but it sickens me to think that someone who would do that and then falsify a police report, is out there "protecting and serving." A cop like that gives a black eye to the rest of the men and women on the police force. Shame on him. I hope he loses his job.

Re: Bicycle Crash/Policeman vs. cyclist
There is no evidence from the video to support the cop's claims. The cop didn't say a word before he leveled the bicyclist.
I think that the cop loses his badge for good over this one.
The Critical Mass guys are giving bicyclists a bad rep. But this cop is giving other cops a far worse rep.

Re: Bicycle Crash/Policeman vs. cyclist
The problem is, this video doesn't show ANYTHING that went on before. It seemed pretty obvious to me that the police officer was attempting to stop this individual prior to tackling him. Just before he tackled him, the police officer was occluded from the viewscreen, so there is not proof that the bicyclist wasn't asked to stop. Also, it was obvious that the police were looking for someone in particular.
I wonder why that was? Could it be that (gasp) this individual was wanted for doing something PRIOR to the time the camera was running, or perhaps out of the extremely narrow field of view?
Here is the problem with film. It only shows what it shows. It can be edited, and made to support just about anyone's point of view.
If you fail to stop for a police officer, you earn what you get. If you're in a car, you get a bullet to the chest, and/or head. Luckily, a bicyclist can be taken out with a PR-24 through the spokes, or just tackled.
Again, I don't think bicyclists get some kind of temporary sainthood, when they get on the bike. But evidently, some people do.

Read the linked story. The police officer lied in the report. Why would he lie if his actions were valid?
