Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
Has anybody else noticed Mediacom's cable internet being incredibly slow the past week or so?
I've reset our modem several times, swapped out my router and back and tested several things but everything points to the problem being 100% on Mediacom's end. I haven't swapped out the modem to a stand-by that I have yet but that's the next step if nobody else reports similar issues.

Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
I haven't been having trouble for a week, but it started yesterday for me, and has gotten very bad today. With many sites, I'm waiting anywhere between 30 seconds and 2-4 minutes for them to load, and others just time out. Oddly, the three message boards I frequent (CF among them) haven't shown any of these problems...

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
Agreed, I have noticed this the last few days. I am calling mediacom tomorrow and asking if they will offer me a deal to stay with them. Qwest DSL is now available in my neighborhood.
I would love to have some more competition in the area but I think this is a ways off.

Even here in CR, I've noticed the problem too.

Qwest is starting to get higher speed than 1.5. Hopefully it comes to central Iowa soon. But the 1.5 I get from Qwest is still faster than the 5-7(supposed) I was paying for from Mediacom.

I have not really noticed any difference in Ankeny over the past few days. It looks like I am in the minority.

Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
I just had a time out problem for about an hour today. Nothing much, and I never had problems connecting to sites for more than 5 minutes. I've been fine in Colfax.

Here is WDM the problem has been really bad for probably the past 48 hours but noticeable for 72 hours or so. It seems to only be getting worse as we speak. Up to this point, I haven't had any problems the past 10 months here and I ran all new high-grade cabling right when we moved in.

Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
I am also in West Des Moines and we have also had this problem. There seems to be no rhyme or reasonas to when or why. Normally we have download speeds around 7.5 mbps but frequently it drops down to as low as 60 kbps which is unusable. At first I thought was something going on with my router but everyone cant be having the same hardware issues at the same time. My hawkeye wife is becoming irratated about the inconsistant speeds which impacts her work...beacuse you know it is my fault. -
Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
It is true that qwest is offereing higher speed internet in selected areas, but let me tell you as a guy that has a lot this type of service under his belt there are problems with every company. Both Qwest and Mediacom have problems. ALL ISP's and technology in general have issues.
Basically what I am trying to is.....Techology is awesome, but there are too many little things that can break it. switching companies will probably not help this. I have several people in my block that have dumped Qwest for mediacom so each situation is different.
I just got 5135Mb down and 495Mb Up for and average for 3 test to Chicago. the 5135 is usually more like 8-10Mb down, but this is still fine.

Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -

I have noticed slowdowns on particular sites too however. Is it some sort of DNS problem rather than just bandwidth?

Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
If you're below 1500kbps on Mediacom and that would be "bad".

Re: Mediacom Internet Incredibly Slow Lately
I just ran a speed test on mine thru speakeasy.net and got 9.8 mb down and 1.3 up
