Lance to race
Lance Armstrong is set to race in the Leadville Trail 100 this Saturday, a grueling 100-mile race in the Rockies of 1,000 mountain bike riders and I'll be there.

I had read on a tri site that he was going to do an ironman next. That would be pretty interesting considering he can run a sub 2:40 marathon.

Anyway, I think he would be right up there since he should clobber people on the bike and be in first place by the end of it.

Enough about me, let's talk about Lance...

I wasn't as in love with his books. I just read one but he seemed like an arrogant jerk.
I also read a story in runners world a few years back and he sounded like a jerk then as well. I think he predicted a 2:30 marathon the first time out even though he had never ran over 12 miles. I think he ended up doing the first one in about 3 hours.

Re: Lance to race
The Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised tons of money and inspired countless cancer victims. I don't believe jerks would devote the attention he has to such a cause.

Lance has done great things on the bike, Lance has done great things for the cancer foundation. Lance is like most other humans I know and makes a lot of mistakes. I admire him, but not sure I want him as my friend.

I would normally agree with this. As a two-time cancer survivor (something I'm not super-comfortable talking about), I actually have very mixed feelings on Lance. It's great that he's giving money NOW that he was affected, but I haven't heard a single story about him performing these selfless acts or donating money before he had cancer. I think that's my problem - there's self-motivation in it, and that bothers me. The LiveStrong idea is wonderful, but why does everyone have to wear a yellow band on their arm to give him the recognition?
