Why do we watch the Olympics?
Womens Gymnastics, Swimming, Track and Field, and others are sports most of us dont watch usually. Its not like they are not on TV through the year. But most of the time we are flipping through the channels see they are on and watch them until a break, turn the channel and forget they are on. But every 4 years we make a point to watch them on TV, we get into them, we talk about them, we love them. Why do we only really pay attention to these sports every 4 years?

Re: Why do we watch the Olympics?
I only somewhat pay attention to the Olympics because I want to see athletes from our country dominate athletes from other countries.
Otherwise, you're right, I wouldn't give a crap about gymnastics or swimming or whatever.

Re: Why do we watch the Olympics?
Simple fact that it's only every 4 years these sports have the full attention of everyone. The entire world "pauses" to watch - people revolve their schedules around it. Some years I'm jazzed up for it and others I'm ho-hum until it arrives - then after a day or two I get into it.
Been into it from the start mostly, didn't get to watch the opening ceremony, but have been paying attention for most of the events. Tonight was certainly a highlight.

Enough of an explaination? I know that but there are world championships every year, yet most dont watch them cheering the USA on. I agree that has some maybe a lot to do with it but there is more to it than that, I think.

I watch to root for our country. I watch track and field anytime it is on, not just during the Olympics.

What are some olympic sports other like to watch?

Re: Why do we watch the Olympics?
I think the fact that it is only once every four years plays a big part. You know that the best are competing in each event, and you know they're giving it their absolute best, since they get so few opportunities.

That would be cool to see football in the olympics. But I doubt it would ever happen. And why did softball and baseball get taken out of the olympics

Re: Why do we watch the Olympics?

No one could stay within 5 runs of the US (and most games were much worse than that).

Re: Why do we watch the Olympics?
I think that it is partly patriotism and partly just seeing the drama. Most of these athletes compete far from the spotlight and train for these events every four years. I know that I can't hardly get enough.

This year, it's obviously Shawn Johnson (2008's America's Sweetheart) and Lolo. I was just at Okoboji Grill and everyone was wild for the US kicking France's *** in swimming!
