What was more memorable (olympics)
What was more memorable:
“Miracle On Ice” America's greatest sports achievement of the 20th century. “It may just be the single most indelible moment in all of U.S. sports history,” said Sports Illustrated of Team USA's improbable gold medal run at the 1980 Winter Olympics. “One that sent an entire nation into a frenzy.” American hockey came of age on February 22, 1980, when the young Americans took down the mighty Red Machine from the USSR.

Definitely the hockey team from 1980.

Re: What was more memorable (olympics)
Umm, Miracle, no contest. Last night was great and all, but nothing close to the Miracle.
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -
Re: What was more memorable (olympics)
The hockey game was more dramatic for sure...mostly due to the political situation in the world at the time (a situation that is starting to look very familiar unfortunately)! Everything USSR at that time meant BAD!

Hockey, but man, that was cool last night.

Re: What was more memorable (olympics)
That race last night was amazing. But it isn't in the same league as the Miracle on Ice. That was huge on so many different levels on top of the actual hockey game. The stories of the guys that played that game were what America is all about. Best sports story ever.

I'm going to go with the 4 X 100 for the lack of never watching the the Miracle on Ice...just hearing about it and seeing few clips. If I had seen the Miracle on Ice I'd prolly have voted for that

If I had seen the Miracle on Ice I'd prolly have voted for that Watch the movie and you will get the gravity of this. It was in the middle of the cold war, and was the best players in the world vs a bunch of college kids. Think of it as ISU vs the original dream team type underdogs.

As a swimming fan, I'd love to say the relay, but it isn't even close IMO.

The hockey game, and it's not even close.
I'm not dissing the 400m IM team whatsoever - it was an amazing accomplishment. However, I find it hard to call something the greatest upset of all time when:
1. our team only has arguably the best swimmer in the world on that team (whereas all-amateur Olympic hockey team beat an all-pro Soviet hockey team that had just got done laying the wood to the NHL All-Stars months before the Olympics)
2. I believe we were expected to walk away with at least the bronze, if not the silver medal (the hockey team I believe wasn't necessarily expected to even make it to the medal round, much less even score a bronze).
The 400m IM will go down as a group of Americans embarrassing a group of French ******** (which is always fun, but isn't all that rare). The hockey team, on the other hand, is when an entire nation got behind a group of 20 kids and that group of kids stuck it to an arch rival that was much more talented than us.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

Kerri Strug winning it for the women's gymnastics on a sprained ankle.

Re: What was more memorable (olympics)
I'm old......I had the remarkable luck to see both. Both were amazing, but my dad is a huge hockey fan, and as we watched that game (I was 10), my dad explained to me how unlikely it would be for the US to win. It was just incredible to see and still gives me chills to this day when I see a clip of the end. -
Re: What was more memorable (olympics)
The 400 was more memorable for me, because I was... ya know... alive for it. -
Re: What was more memorable (olympics)
The Kari Strugg thing was pretty darn memorable too, especially for us that were a little young or unborn for the Miricle on Ice. I think everyone has that image of Bela Karoyli carrying her off the matt permanently stored in their head... and of course the SNL spoofs with Chris Kataan.
