Car broken into last night
It has been a frustrating day. I just moved to Waterloo and bought a house and my car was broken into last night. For some reason, I had an extra set of keys in the car. Those were taken as well as a cell phone charger?!? The perp left my garage door opener and a bunch of CD's and didn't take anything else - not even the car.

I'd keep an eye on that car. Perhaps once he found the keys, he took 'em and bailed - only to plan and snag the car at a more convenient time for him.
I'm not sure, I'd assume you can get a car re-keyed but it's probably pretty spendy.

That's really awkward that he took that set of keys and took nothing else...might come by at a later date if he has a set of your keys and steal your car

Sounds like a drunk moron. My car was broken into and they stole less than a dollar in change. left everything else. Left a beer can behind to commemorate the evening.

Re: Car broken into last night
You might want to check your insurance policy. A lot of policies will cover the re-keying of a car if one of the sets were taken. It's cheaper for them to pay for this than it is to pay for the stolen car.
What ever happened to truth, justice and the American Way? -

Ditto, if you have insurance to cover these things, I'd see if they wouldn't cover the cost of getting the car "re-keyed."

If you're looking for the perp, I'd start asking questions at EIU's football practice later today in Iowa City.

Good points...didn't consider an insurance policy covering the re-keying costs.

According to IceBerg...the wrestling team is alter boys so that eliminates them from the picture

There weren't any house keys on that ring were there? Get the car re-keyed, and the house if need be.

Re: Car broken into last night
My car was broken into a few months ago. They took everything they could resell. They left the CD's which don't have very much value with out the cases.
My insurance paid really well.

Re: Car broken into last night
I have had my car broken into a number of times (used to have a convertable). One time they stole the face plate to my CD player and not the player itself... Our groundskeeper at the apartment complex found it and gave it back, still worked...

Re: Car broken into last night
I and most of the people I ran around with some years ago had break ins. It is one of the most frustrating and maddening things that can happen (to someone without a house and kids anyway). I came outside once a few months later and saw what appeared to be another broken window and man did my heart sink - fortunately it was frost on the window. As for what the idiots took - nothing but the stereo that they might well have broken with the half assed smash up job they did to extricate it. The damage to the window and dash were far worse than the loss of the stereo. One friend lost an even worse stereo but for some reason they took his backpack. He was also student teaching that semester and he really got reamed by the teacher for losing some of her teaching books and assignments. Yeah, it was a bummer but seriously, like he could have avoided it?? They left a huge duffel in my car with way better stuff than 5th grade homework!
