Personally, I don't think you should have to be 16 to compete. Other sports don't have those rules. But since they do, there is no way all of the Chinese are 16.
But the fact remains, we lost. 16...12...50...I care not how old they are. We simply got beat. It happens.
This thing was literally beaten to death last night, and then some. What's on the schedule for today?
I have to give credit to Marty and Miller. They predicted this exact scenario yesterday. Ken Miller said that the U.S. wouldn't win the gold and today everyone would be making excuses.
It's like the day after a hawkeye loss.
What I heard though is that young gymnasts can have an easier time performing the stunts because they're bodies are smaller and easier to move around in tight spaces. But I don't think it's stereotyping to say that most Chinese people are smaller than most Americans, so I think it's difficult to tell whether the girls are old enough.
As far as the three year olds being plucked away. There are families all over this country that do nearly the same thing with tennis, golf, gymnastics, etc. Maybe not to the same extreme, but they send their kids to Florida or Arizona to live and work their sport at VERY young ages.
Shawn still has a huge advantage in the All-Around. The Chinese are more specialized, I don't think they had anyone compete in all four events.
Anybody seeing the comeback the baseball team is having against Korea? Is Hee Seop Choi playing for Korea? Not like he is real busy in MLB.
I'm not sure if its necessarily true that we would have won had Alicia not messed up at the end. We lost by, what, 2.2 points. She probably lost around one point on the balance beam and about 1 point on the floor exercise due to the falls. It would have been close, but we wouldn't necessarily have won anyway.
I'm not sure why people are so upset about it. If we would have had great performances and gotten shafted on scoring then maybe, and I am talking about a wee little microscopic maybe, there would be something to bark about. But we screwed up once on the beam and 3 times on the floor.
We got beat, it's done, move on, there is a lot more sports to watch yet.
I made the comment to my wife last night that each and every one of the U.S. gymnasts should have done a shot before the competition last night. They looked so tense...if they somehow could have relaxed it would have helped, in my opinion.
Count Bela is one to talk......:v_SPIN:
Some of his past coaching methods are quite questionable.
Did anyone watch the medal ceremony last night for the relay with Phelps? While playing the national anthem, the goof ball next to Phelps kept talking to him and Phelps was laughing. Have a little respect fellas.
