I am not trying to take anything away from Shawn, but she was favored in the olympics. Sometimes it seems the coverage is so over the top that even if ISU goes 14-0 and wins the national title by a 40 point blowout, it will be overshadowed because this is the year of Shawn Johnson.

Exactly. I really don't think there would have been a "Lolo Jones Month" if she had won the gold.

Save us tonight, the last hope for all of us,
Light-years gone by, we're still holding on,
Save us tonight, a star shines in all of us,
Far beyond our lives, still our glory lives on.

She has certainly earned whatever she gets. However, I do think some are putting way too much on her and hyping this thing up too much. Before, it was all good. Now, it's times to congratulate her, say thanks and move on.

I'm pretty certain she's getting ready to do the same.

It doesn't matter if she was favored...she won a gold medal at the olympics, when does Iowa EVER get not just national attention, but world attention. Heck, I was thrilled Iowa State got mentioned a few times during the competition. She has accomplished a lot and should be recognized. It happens once every 4 years, many gymnasts are only able to compete in one, maybe 2 olympics.

This is just plain ridiculous...

If that were to happen, which I don't think anyone is counting on, it would be a huge deal as well. But I doubt people from all over the world will be watching or will care.

The olympics is a huge deal...not sure why a few people are so upset...

No. Shawn is not just an Iowa celebrity now, she is a national celebrity. Don't believe me? Then why would Letterman have her on his show? She represents what people love to see in a champion. The way she handled getting silver instead of gold three times was with class that few demonstrate and it only endears her to the public even more.

She choked so we don't have to worry about that scenario.

And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

Nice. I'm sure if she had 5 chances she would have brought home 3-4 gold.

Re: Shawn Johnson Month (September)

I'm proud as anybody of Shawn and her accomplishments. That being said, I thought it was awesome they had a welcome back for her at Wells Fargo arena. I watched Keith Murphy interview her and thought that was good.

And then **** Culpert gives some stupid message to her.......................

And then the Polk County Supervisors get up and give a speech and declare it her month.................

Then I turned it off before the mayor, the school superintendents, the janitors, and then all the other wannabee's get up and give me a speech. It should have ended at the interview and leave all the other crap out of it........

Question for the day: Can I still make season tickets work for FB and MBB if I move to Canada?

She will probably make more in China then she does in America over the coming years, they love her there, not to mention the MILLIONS of hits on her website over the last couple of weeks.

How many times will this happen to Des moines? Celebrate now.

It appeared to me that she was a little uncomfortable tonight with all the worship - and her parents looked awkward with it as well.

I think she deserves everything! I don't know why people have to be mean. Just be happy for her realizing her dreams and doing it with grace.

Don't be haters.

My avatar is a pic I took from my phone camera at the spring game. Gotta love Cy on a bike.
