Don't be haters. Agree - her mental toughness was tremendous, first with that floor exercise routine in the all-around competition, and then with her gold medal performance on the beam.
I wish we could turn the clock back and hire her as a team psychologist for a couple of Cyclone football teams...

Refresh my memory, didn't Cael Sanderson win gold in 2004? That was to cap off a perfect collegiate wrestling career also. I don't seem to remember him getting near this much attention, and his gold medal was just as hard to come by.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Cael was an ugly wrestler, Shawn is a cute gymnast. And Cael did get his share of attention, but wrestling is not the marquee sport for the olympics like gymnastics is.

I agree it may be a bit much, BUT it won't cost you anything to have a month for her and it won't mean anything after a week so, if it makes the supervisors happy that they think that they have done something then I guess it is ok. It may seem silly, but that is what political types do.. silly things..

Lolo would have gotten a month or whatever too if she had won the gold and/or if she didn't have obligations in Europe that kept her from the "coming home" ceremony. Believe me Keith Murphy would have made sure she was honored just as much as Shawn even without the medals. It is awesome that she made it to the Olympics.
Also, Cael isn't from Iowa originally. He went to ISU, but did not grow up in Iowa. That is different. The university used his image to promote promote promote if that makes you happy.
