Things age over time, it's a natural course. Repair as needed, but please don't replace with a replica.

Dude, I so agree with that.

Otherwise, why not weld up that big unsightly crack in the Liberty Bell?

I could fix that in a couple hours with a large torch, some brazing bar and a grinder.

As long as it's structurally sound, a repair it should be. Marble cracks. It's what it does, and it doesn't look bad.

The Parthenon is being restored right now by a very interesting method which will retain structural integrity while making no attempt to cover up the fact that it's an old structure.

They say that the cracks will take away from the visitors experience, Thats the furthest thing from the truth. Id much rather see the old, almost original structure, than a new, almost meaningless one.

Huh. So the Tomb of the Unknowns is about the "visitors' experience?" Here I was thinking that it was about the Unknowns....

I left a church because they quit doing childrens' choir, because "it was unprofessional and took away from the visitors' experience". I feel the same thing about that. It's not FOR the visitor.
