I have a daughter who is terrified of dogs because some *** bag next door neighbor had two pit bulls in the first house we owned. Ya some of it might be in the training but if it were up to me everyone of them would be shot on site when I see one. I've seen them when they appear to be nice and then you look at their owner funny and they turn into a rage in a split second. I told the neighbor with them if I caught the stupid dog in my yard once, I was shooting the dog and then I was throwing it through his living room window. They attack without provication and this is one subject that gets my blood boiling fast especially when it comes to my defenseless 2-4 yr old kid that wants to play in her own back yard.
OK, now I'm going to take a cold shower till the steam stops.:realmad:
I have seen plenty of vicious dogs in my time, but they have all weighed under 15 pounds. I have also known a few pit bulls and they are the sweetest dogs in the world.
I have a friend with 2 pit bulls and a a little taco bell dog clone.
And that little dog terrorizes those pit bulls and they just sit there and take it.
Unfortunately there are alot of people in this world that are not fit to be pet owners, and it seems they overwhelmingly pick pit bulls as their dogs of choice.
Yea, Pit Bulls are sweet.....until they decide to rip your face off. As someone mentioned earlier, every news article about a pitbull attack contains the phrase "but he's always been such a sweet dog, and loves children".
There is an "attack and kill" switch inside the brain of a Pit Bull, and I don't believe that any amount of training can completely disable it.
How many times do you think the owner of any animal who attacks someone is like "Yeah, that dog has always been vicious and mean, I expected this to happen."Quote:

we have a neighbor 3 houses up with 2 pitbulls and he walks them up and down the street all the time. he is very nice and the dogs seem to be very well mannered. when my 4-yr old daughter is playing in the front yard and I see them coming down the sidewalk, I always have her come to the front porch with me. I just don't trust them.
How times have changed! In the 60's mean dogs were almost always German Shepards, next were dobermans, then rottweilers now pit bulls. Pit bulls instincts are for dog fighting not attacking humans. German Shepards instincts are for controlling humans and generally will do so with little training. It's the owners, if you ban pit bulls they'll just use someother "junkyard" dog.
All I can say is wow. They should all be shot on sight? Based on what? This kind of thinking is very dangerous. I could get out statistics on various demographics in the human race. Does that mean members of certain human races that statistically and in the media are portrayed as more violent and dangerous should be shot on sight?
My neighbors across the street have two Rotweilers. They jumped their fence and attacked a dog that was being walked by its owner and was almost torn in half. I beat the hell out of one to get it off, while my wife and the owner of the dog being attacked worked on the other one. I had lived in my house for 5 years and never had seen those dogs attack anyone. Sure, they barked alot, but the owners were always out there playing with them and giving them attention. You just never know what is going to set them off. I don't think dogs like this should be banned, but I think if you have children and have a large dog like this, you need your head examined.
I don't think banning is a good idea, but obviously something should be done. I have to say, it isn't coincidence that most attacks you hear about are by pit bulls. If you can't control your dog, you shouldn't have it.
There is a reason a lot of urban areas want to ban these dogs and it isn't because of the media. The life and well being of my daughters is slightly more important to me then making sure I know the dog has been trained to fight or if he's tame and just craving attention when I want it gone. I've seen them go from content to kill mode in an instant so giving them the benefit of the doubt is not an option.
