Slob pet owners tick me off. My wife is deathly afraid of dogs, and if your dog runs up to the fence and barks/growls at her, I think I should be able to shoot it. Period.
Dog owners, keep your darned dogs to yourself. That means away from the public they can menace. So if a dog owner has their dog on a chain in their yard and the dog makes an "aggressive action" toward you, all the while staying on their chain, you should get to shoot it?
Why should you get to kill something because your wife is scared of it? What if she was scared of midgets? Could you shoot midgets who try to ask her for directions?

Maaaaybe someone needs to actually read my post before responding. The dogs I object to are the ones that are behind a fence, but get to try to attack my wife through the fence.
And I don't blame the dogs; I blame their slob owners.
Last time I checked, midgets cannot rip your throat out.

Being barked or growled at is not grounds for killing an animal.
Period. Well, then maybe their slob POS owners shouldn't put their dogs where they can intimidate passer-by.
So, you think it's okay for slob piece of crap dog owners to let their dogs run right up to the fence, or the sidewalk and intimidate passerby? I think it should be okay, then, for me to set up a 100,000 watt stereo system right at your property line and play it 24/7 at full volume!!!
After all, that 100,000 watt stereo system was designed to play loud....
I'm 100% caveman when it comes to defending my wife. And she should be able to walk the sidewalk without fear. And she's not psychotic about it, it's just slob pet owners don't give a crap who their dogs scare.

#2, how are they attacking through the fence, and if you wife is so "deathly" afraid of dogs why is she so close to the fence?
#3, midgets are vicious

If she's deathly afraid of dogs then that seems like her problem. She should probably get over it or cross the street if she's frightened. Sounds like she's in no actual danger, but rather perceives danger because of her fear.
If I was deathly afraid of cats and someones cat jumped up on their window sill as I was walking by should I just reach through the screen and kill the cat?

If we can somehow get the cat 'groupies' involved...this thread will really rocket into the atmosphere...

Re: Pit Bulls
Every weekend we take our two dogs to Prospect Park and let them run off leash with hundreds of other dogs. There are a large number of pit bulls there that are all well behaved and get along with the other dogs. It's a matter of socializing the puppy and dog properly, which is the owner's responsibility. Some of them are the best dogs at the park while I can name 3 labs (nutter butter, frisco, and sophie) that tend to run around and terrorize other dogs.
Unfortunately, pit bulls get a bad rap as they have become a popular "tough dog" for many who are completely unfit to own a dog. Any dog that has to wear an oversize chain for a collar and be screamed at and beat on a regular basis will become aggressive. Unfortunately, other people only see the end result in the dog. I say shoot the owners, not the dogs. A well-cared for and trained dog is not running about and attacking anyone.
Occasionally there is a dog that is messed up right from the start, (I can name a number of people that were messed up from the start as well), but this isn't limited to pit bulls. For instance, I have a beagle that has a major attitude problem (from southern Iowa). Even with her issues, she is a very manageable dog that we just had to learn how to handle properly.

Re: Pit Bulls
I skipped over tons of posts, because I didn't want to read 6 pages of arguing back and forth.
Here's what I will say about Pittbulls:
They want to please their owner and are very loyal. With the wrong master, they can be very dangerous, but with the right master they can be fine.
They typically are bred for violent traits and people train them incorrectly. If you adopt one at an ARL or something, that could be a potentially dangerous situation.
There are a lot of misconceptions about pitbulls, and we only hear about the negative situations. I know people that have been attached about Dobermans, German Shepards, even a Beagle (and having owned one, I love them!). It's all about owners and situations.
