Iowa Jobs website
I was looking around this website tonight and was wondering if anyone has used this before? I was going to establish an account but one of the first things they ask for is my SS# and want to cover all my bases on this prior to putting that in. The site looks legit and does have contact info that I will be calling tomorrow. Any input would be appreciated. https://www1.iowajobs.org/jobs/logout.seek "It is the nature of man to rise to greatness if greatness is expected of him." It is ran by the state government, it's legit

Re: Iowa Jobs website
No WAY they should require a SS# They cannot ask for it. I already sent a complaint to them that they cannot ask for that info.

Re: Iowa Jobs website
It seems really shady that they are asking for a SS#, I would not put it in. I also will be sending in a complaint.
That is a huge violation of the Privacy Act of 1972 (I think it is 72 might be 74).

I'm an executive recruiter and the only time I ever ask a candidate for their SS# is when they ahve accepted an offer and I need to do degree verification and driving record check.

I don't think in this case you should enter your SSN but....
This whole SSN thing kind of irritates me. I work around the IVR world and people are constantly complaining about having to put in their SSN into the phone. Here is a couple things to think about.
#1 WE HAVE YOUR SSN! You are not providing us anything new. We are just trying to identify you so that we can route you.
#2 Then the next question comes along. Why not just ask the customer their account number instead of their SSN? I'd say without documentation in front of them about 99% of the people have no clue what their account number is but nearly everyone knows their SSN.

Re: Iowa Jobs website
You guys realize that Iowa Workforce Development is an agency of the state, right?
This isn't Robert Half or Monster.com.
I believe they also handle unemployment checks and gov't funded job training.
Is it ok they make you put your SSN on your tax forms?
Honestly - I'm glad they do use it. If more gov't agencies did (Iowa court system, I'm looking at you) there would be far less troubles.

The form information with the full SSN will still be reported to the federal government, but the taxpayers copy will likely just have a masked copy of the number.

Isn't that the important copy? The other is just a receipt basically.
