Kids sharing nude photos on a cellphone face being a sex offender

A fifteen year old girl in Newark, OH faces being labelled a "sex offender" for sending naked cellphone photos of herself (a minor) to other minors. If convicted, she'll spend the next ten years on public registries, classed as a producer of child pornography. No word on what compensation she (as the victim of the crime) will be able to get from herself (as the perp).

I just want to point out that it does NOT matter how old the person is, the one that distributes pornographic images of a minor is still a distributor.

come on man. when i was her age, i had a few girls sending me nudie pictures. i dont think it is all that uncommon. its just messed up when it is to someone of a different age....

Having three daughters, number 1, I hope I raise them good enough to where they are smart enough not to do something so stupid when they get a phone and, number 2, I can assure them that if I catch them doing that the charge of being a sex offender will be the least of her worries.

No, it's messed up. Period. Anybody who does that has no idea where the pictures could end up. Do people have no self-respect? Good luck ever running for public office or being a celebrity.

EDIT -- By the way, I'm not necessarily saying that I agree with these, but I think this girl should get in trouble of some sort. That's just a really stupid thing to do...

Common sense has to be injected here somewhere. Surely we can come up with more specifically detailed laws that clamp down ruthlessly on real offenders while separating out the garden variety stuff.

Actually she's getting off kind of lucky. Only having to register for 10 years is nothing compared to some states (I think.... haven't looked up the laws for the other 49 states but I am pretty sure some of them are a little less forgiving) and there is atleast 1 politician who has pulled his head out of his *** to realize that the law governing this case was not written to cover this situation. Dumb on this girl's part, but to label her a sex offender is even dumber.


(btw I hate all the stupid laws classifying all sex offenders the same)

Wasn't there something about girls taking pictures of themselves and sending them around going on in Urbandale or Gilbert just a few years ago?

I think in Gilbert it was that they were taking pictures of other girls in the bathroom and then sending them around though.
