OpenOffice 3.0 Released

Apparently the demand is causing them some trouble...but if you are a fan of open source software, the new version of OpenOffice is available.

If you do not have access to M$ Office at a cheap price or if you want an office suite for a second computer and don't want to pay for one or whatever...this is a great alternative!

I see on this site that using a BitTorrent link is available. Do you have to have specific software to download using a BitTorrent link? I guess I am not sure what "BitTorrent" means?

Yes go to BitTorrent and install it. Its painless and will probably give you a better download speed than from the main site.

I use open office instead of MS Office. It uses way less of your CPU.

trying right now, looks like their servers are busy.

i think Open Office is fine for individuals, but MS Office is still much preferred in business.

I use all legal freeware, and am just as functional as I was with software like MS office.

It is amazing how much free stuff is out there really. Yet many people fork over a lot of money for programs because they just don't know the alternatives that are available. AV programs immediately jump to mind...

AV programs for personal use. Business use usually still requires $

We had a professor who pimped Open Office and used it exclusively, and then couldn't understand why those of us using Microsoft Office couldn't open his documents (must have been some version/configuration error).

No thanks - I'll spend the buku dollars every five years or so to make sure I get software that works the way it should.

I find OO to be much simpler and more reliable than MSO.

And still have versions of MS Office unable to open the newer MS Office files by default?

OpenOffice is close to being good enough to use. The only thing it really lacks that would make it a killer suite is an Outlook workalike.
