Does anyone have a favorite online video converter? I need something that will convert my mini-DV tapes into .avi or .wmv to share online with a few others. I know I'll have to pay but would like something in the ~$30 range and user-friendly.

If you still have the mini-DV camcorder you should be able to import them via the camcorder with fire wire... The usually save as AVI's when you import them.
Super (C) works pretty good, and is free. You need to have a little knowledge about formats however to get the best results...

if you're dealing with a desktop. Most laptops nowadays come with 1394 jacks on them.
"Firewire" refers to the IEEE-1394 serial interface. It used to be more popular on Macs, but many PC's now have them as well. My older PC laptop has one, and I bought an el-cheapo PCI card to add one to my desktop PC. You can probably even buy a USB to Firewire bridge.Quote:
