One good thing about the credit crisis
According to the NYT (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/29/bu...=2&oref=slogin)
"And lenders, over all, are slowing the flood of mail offers to a trickle with moves that would translate for the average American household into about 13 fewer pieces of credit card junk mail a year than its peak in 2005. Mail offers to new and existing customers are on pace to drop below 8.4 billion pieces, the lowest level since 2004, according to Mintel Comperemedia, a direct marketing research firm."

This isn't good, it's going to actually cost me more money now. I use those offers as fire starters in my fireplace...

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
This will only result in increased rates by the US Postal Office to compensate for the loss of revenue. Expect stamps to be over 50 cents within a year.

I smell an email tax coming.

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
Capital One has spent a fortune on mailers to my household. How can they stay in business with their ad costs?

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
Just an FYI...Printing creates the 4th or 5th largest industry in North America..printers, mailiers, logging, MFG, mailing, catalogs, magazines, newspapers, advertising, Marketing, USPS, distributions, Billing, tickets, transit...on and on and on... So when you hate on mail or printed advertising, someone you know will be affected negatively when all is said and done. Mail is not intrusive like other forms of advertising and has one of the highest response rates. Your politicians don't tell you that and by the way when they propose "Do Not Mail" legislation, it will exclude politicians...funny how that works....
By the way, I agree the credit mailings seem to be over the top....:).
Thanks for the link

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
After receiving two hundred offers from Capital One, I think it is time for them to cut back. My non response should have been a clue.

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
Maybe interest rates wouldn't have to be so high if they didn't send everyone in America a hundred credit card offers?

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
I used to fill them full of other heavy junk mail and send them back in the prepaid envelop.

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis

Re: One good thing about the credit crisis
I love it when I get offers for cards I already have... Chase/united card is especially notorious for that....
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. Thomas Jefferson, 1802 -

Chase is a freak of nature. In this year alone, they bought up my credit card company, my mortgage, and my student loans. They are taking over my life on company at a time.
