The waste should not be a problem. Here's how to handle it safely and
cheaply:
1. Melt a bunch of sand.
2. Add a measured amount of radioactive nuclear waste.
3. Mix it around really well.
4. Pour it into a bunch of large forms.
5. Let it cool and solidify into glass.
6. Ship it out to sea.
7. Dump it into the nearest oceanic trench that feeds a subduction zone.
By suspending the waste in a lot of silicon, the radioactive particles
are locked into place in a sparse distribution, ensuring that none of
the material is dangerous to life, except by very long-term continual
exposure. It's not concentrated anywhere. You don't care if it breaks or
anything, either, there's nothing to leak!
Workers can safely load and transport it out to sea, where it's dumped
in water so deep that almost nothing lives down there. Eventually, after
thousands of years, the big chunks of glass sitting on the ocean floor
get absorbed back into the earth's mantle, where it's mixed around even
more with non-radioactive minerals.
By the time it bubbles up to the surface again, in millions or billions
of years, natural radioactive decay will have completely neutralized any
threat.
This process is cheap, efficient, and the dangerous part (dumping
dangerous stuff into the molten silicon) can be easily automated.

I'm sure there is more work than what it sounds like but if you can de-centralize the power grid that should offer some major benefits, not to mention this is huge to deveoloping countries that can't afford a grid

I agree that wind power is not THE answer, but it can be part of the answer, much like these. Much like a stock portfolio we need to diversify .

I wonder how hard the utility companies here will fight this? Seriously, 25 million is a drop in the bucket knowing you could supply a community of 20,000 homes. On a small estimate, I would say that's 50,000 people. I would think it would open the door for more local companies to to come in and offer power.

I saw a news report about these reactors and the newcaster kept implyuing that is was a three mile island waiting to happen. Full of the usual inflamitory language we have come to expect from news reports. Thans and she kept talking as if you would have one in you back yard and not buried as the company states. Good idea as long as they are allowed to carry through with it.
