I like Rome's show when HE talks...but I can't stand the callers. My guess is some of them spent 3 weeks typing up their "take" and then another 3 weeks trying to get on the air. I'd rather listen to Sound Off callers, and that's saying something.

A total digression.... but when I was coaching senior league baseball, my catcher came in between innings and said "this cup hurts, it's too big". I told him "FIRST rule of baseball, NEVER admit your cup is too BIG". From that point forward those kids thought I was the greatest coach ever. Even the catcher - in a post-pubescent voice much deeper than mine said "Good one coach!".

Anyone who hates Rome and doesn't think softball guy is even a tiny bit amusing is just being obstinant and does not like him because they don't want to like him.

    Re: Jim Rome

Like I said, he has his moments but you get to sit through boring interviews with NASCAR drivers and NBA players to get to it. Then on top of having to hear the interview you then get to hear him talk about how great of a person the interviewee was for the next 1/2 hour of the show. If my kids ever are going down the wrong road in the future I'll just get them interviewed on the Rome show because apparently that makes everyone a "great guy".

Well, one thing for sure. He definitely thinks that if he repeats himself enough, you'll belive what he says.

Honestly, if he repeats himself enough....you'll believe what he says.

Seriously, anyone else with me on this.... If he...repeats himself...enough times...you have to believe it.

I'm serious. Give it two weeks of unbias listening....you all point out the bad things but there are many more good things about him.

    Re: Jim Rome

I'm glad it floats your boat but I've listened off and on for 5 years now so I don't think I'm going to suddenly "get it". I get all of his little jokes but they're usually just stupid and not funny. I'm more a fan of opinion-based sports shows rather than simply interviews so I can understand why I don't love his show...I'm also not big on Dan Patrick but at least he doesn't come off as pompous and self-loving as does Rome.

    Re: Jim Rome

Actually Dan Patrick is 10 times more arrogant than Rome. At least Rome is sarcastic. DP has great interviews but he really does love himself. At least he comes off that way.

I am really starting to like the Herd

    Re: Jim Rome

Rome's interviews are ok, but he's so bad at being a radio personality it makes his show unlistenable. You can tell he has nothing to say half the time, so either he just doesn't say anything and leaves dead air, or he talks about the same stupid thing over and over and over again until what was once funny, is no longer funny.

Now we can agree on something, Colin is the best show on ESPN Radio as of now IMO.

    Re: Jim Rome

I never get why people love bashing Rome. Why say anything if you don't like someone. It seems a lot of people at ISU love the Family Guy show for some reason, because I do not think that show has ever done anything funny do I interrupt all the Family Guy threads just so people know how much I hate it? What is the point?

    Anyway..

Cant wait for the next smackoff :)
