For starters... I'd make them return everything they bought
Next... make them stand by themselves while local retail employees rush past them...

On a sidenote... this gives a whole new meaning to the name "Black Friday"
Given that the doors were torn off their hinges... what do you want to bet they rethink using the term "Door buster" for their sales flier next year

As crazy as these black Friday crowds have got recently I wonder if workers are having to rock paper sisscors or something just to see who gets to risk their safety opening the doors. -

Pathetic. No, whole blame is not on Wal-Mart, but with people being trampled numerous times in their own stores, you'd think a little forethought would be made at some point in time. Maybe a few police/security guards, handing out tickets ala Best Buy, anything but a complete free for all.

This is a horrible story, but lots not be too quick about bashing the whole society over this. I mean, this did happen in Long Island, the region of the US where the most rude and cruel people call home.

It doesn't surprise that this happened in New York. I'd like to think (and I do) that if something at all like this happened in Des Moines, somebody would be helping the guy out.

I personally experienced a number of close calls in the mid 1970's when I lived in Iowa. These close calls came from when people stormed concert halls to get the best seats at rock concerts (back in the 1970s when general admission was common).

So sad that someone had to die so a few could save $5 on a toy for their spoiled brat.

Never underestimate the power or stupidity of mobs, wether they're at a store, a football game, a rock concert, or a riot at the corner of Lincoln and Welch
Seriously though... being part of a mob makes anyone stupid

Seriously though... being part of a mob makes anyone stupid I worked about 10 year in retail (part time, full time, management) before switching careers. You are so right. Once you get more than 10 people together only god knows what will happen next.
Still feel so bad for this guys family. To be killed while working at wal mart by cheap bastards really sucks -
Re: Man Trampled in Wal Mart Stampede on Black Friday
I've been called a scrooge many times by friends because I continue to express my hatred for the Christmas holiday, and this is just one more example why.
The idea around Christmas has been over thrown by corperations and the ever growing need to fatten the wallets of the already to wealthy. Christmas has been turned into yet another money making scheme. It's sickening.
I for one am done playing into it. My family has decided this year to not waste money on stupid crap that we probably don't need anyway. We're all going to each pick an activity (ie, bowling, movie night, game night, beer pong (I have a sweet family)) and each couple will sponsor that activity for that night over the Christmas break. This takes us back to what it's supposed to be about, family and friends spending time together.
I wish more people would do this and leave the 'new' Christmas in the past.

Re: Man Trampled in Wal Mart Stampede on Black Friday
On a side note, I worked at Best Buy in college and have witnessed multiple fist fights between customers over saving <$10 on a stupid cd player.
I've had customers threaten to kick my *** on black friday when I explaiend that we were sold out of an item and that we wouldn't honor the price the next week.
People are crazy, I feel most sorry for these kids who get spoiled, and only learn to grow up and become part of yet another stupid mob.
