Chinese Buffet place-Near Bank of America branch. Very bad
I agree. I dislike fast food to begin with, but that Chinese Buffet smells like crap.
Also with the Burger King: there are a number of people I know that have gone there and gotten food poisioning, so it's a crappy Burger King (as if Burger King wasn't already a bunch of crap)
In the same buildling, the food court upstairs is pretty good though(Subway, Maid Rite, Thai, Midtown Art Cafe, to name some).
I also second the Gyro place in the Locust Food Court. Good stuff.
I don't drink the Kool-Aid, and I am done making excuses. Only keeping it real... -
Re: Downtown Skywalk
I like Winstons. It has some good grub. Has a really good Italian Sausage sandwhich.

Re: Downtown Skywalk
I was just very surprised it was only a 10 minute walk to Court Ave. from the north part of the skywalk. I could definitely get used to this - if it wasn't for the drive to downtown and parking.

Re: Downtown Skywalk
22, try something italian. Get a slice and the salad bar. The sandwiches and pasta are excellent too.

I appreciate all the suggestions!

Re: Downtown Skywalk
I work downtown.
Here's my take...
Smokey D's BBQ:
Something Italian: Pizza, sandwiches, and pasta
Palmer's Deli
Royal Mile: Fish and chips
El Azteca: Mexican
Johnny's: new pizza buffet

Re: Downtown Skywalk
I will second South Union. It is attached to Centro and is under the same ownership (I believe they also own & run Somthing Italian). Smokey D's is very good for fastfood BBQ but I do not think it is up there with Hickory Park or Famous Daves.
Another place that is right outside the skywalk that is very good is Mr. Filet. It is at 510 7th street and has some very good Gyro's and steak sandwiches. The building itself is old & run down but the food is good and they are very fair priced.

Re: Downtown Skywalk
Jeez...some of these post make me think I just entered a time warp.
801 Steak and Chop -- they haven't served lunch for a few years now.
King Ying Low - DSM's oldest Chinese resturant closed this past spring . Good news -- the guys that own/run the Royal Mile, High Life, Hausen Hause, etc. have leased this space and are putting in their lastest addition to the downtown restuarant scene. From what I've heard, it will be a pizza parlor.
Scuffy's -- that's a beauty salon now.
I would recommend:
Winston's
Something Italian
Palmer's Deli
Court Ave Brewery
Raccoon River Brewery
Royal Mile
Mr Filet
There's ton's more, but those are some of my favs. If you consider taking the free downtown shuttle, that opens up the entire East Village too. Fav's:
Olympic Flame
Noodle Zoo
House of Bricks.
Damn!! Sometimes I forget how great it is to work downtown!

It has been reopened as a new place now under new ownership/mgt. Something like Burgers, Subs, and More. There was an article in today's Register.

Let's see, 2 Million population vs 500,000 in the comparative metro areas, I would hope it's better.

Re: Downtown Skywalk
Mr Filet! Gotta go off the skywalk a piece, but close enough...

Something Italian is great.
Just off the skywalk a cheap option is the High Life!
I love me some Jethros BBQ!
