Is anyone else in a work environment where everyone in the office is freaking out about losing their jobs?
I guess I've lucky to be employed for the last 10 years at a place that lays off very few workers but everyone around me is all doom and gloom.
We had a TON of cutbacks and cost saving measures in our company to hopefully prevent any kinds of layoffs so everyone is pretty comfortable I think.
We did too but I think people are now feeling like there is nothing else to cut but employees/Quote:

Was laid off at the beginning of October with about 10 others at my former company. Wasn't fun...but...
Came out way ahead both with the severance and new job. Just gotta know where to look for these things.
I think in the current conditions, it's natural to be nervous. It doesn't help when you're constantly hearing/reading about it either in the news or someone telling you they (or someone they know) just lost their job.

Nobody would dare lay me off. I am to valuable to everyone. This company would go under without me. So the other 20,000 employees better feel thankful for me.
At least that is the attitude I use to make me feel better.
Have not heard anyone mention worrying about it. Of the 400ish people in my area I only talk to about 20 so I may have a limited pool though.
We laid off a few the other day and people here are walking on eggshells every day...
We've had 22 people let go since September, 12 of them yesterday. Not a fun time at all.
Physical therapy is still greatly in demand. I get a job offer in the mail every other day.
I worked in an office environment of a large company that was bought by its competitor. It was a miserable experience for a full year as the integration process took place. There were "farewell" parties and drinks after work every week as people streamed out of the place. I then worked in a place that was so arbitrary and random; no one knew where they stood. I now work from home, and while I know the stress and uncertainty of the economy is certainly there, the rumors, and paranoid environment is non-existent. I can do my job without the craziness.

The ultimate downer is when you own and operate your own company, it is losing tons of money, and you are personally liable for the company's debts.
I've been there and done that.
