I get plenty of cardio trying to get up the stairs at work.

Haha, no.
Those are typical dimensions. I've tried an 18 inch width before and it didn't work so well. Also, I'm 6'2" and I have a long stride so the 55" belt is a minimum requirement. I think there are 60" belts available.

I work at home.
Re: Treadmill Recommendations?
Save your money and run outside. Personally, I love running at night when it's cold outside. Plus, the snow and ice make it more adventurous!

I can't stand running in the cold. I hate that burning feeling in my lungs. I'll run in 90 degrees and humid but not the cold.

Gold's Gym - new on 22nd in WDM. I think it's $100 to join and $35 per month (for an individual).
Plus - they have the cardio theatre. A huge high-def movie screen set off in a back room with treadmills and elipticals. Very cool.

We always had gym memberships until we moved to CO in 2004. I really like working out at home. Options might be limited but the biggest hurdle is going downstairs rather than getting in a cold car, driving there, parking, and then hoping equipment is available.
Re: Treadmill Recommendations?
I've got that same model Sear's treadmill. It holds clothes quite nicely.

That's funny, because I'm the opposite. If I'm at home, my wife is usually there. JUST KIDDING.
I'm better at working out when I make it an event. It's too easy to turn off the treadmill after a few minutes if I smell pasta cooking or hear the doorbell ring. Plus - I've made a lot of friends at the gyms I've belonged to.

I have one of those too. I'm like you in that I love working out at home. You can't beat the commute, and my workout time is the only time I get to clear off the DVR. 2nd Wind has good equipment, but their stuff is pricey. Sears is probably a good place to get a mid-range treadmill. I'd look for one with a good motor and belt, instead of one with a lot of bells and whistles but a bad drivetrain that might breakdown sooner. 10mph sounds pretty fast. If you plan on running on it, make sure the treadmill is meant to be run on. I seem to remember that the low and mid-range treadmills are generally meant to be used only for walking, not running.
Re: Treadmill Recommendations?
Here are a couple of good reviews. I think if you are planning on using it for serious, even semi serious training your price range is at a minimum 1/3 of what you need to spend.
You don't always get what you pay for something, but at the same time don't pay for what you get.

Re: Treadmill Recommendations?
I picked up a nice one on ebay for $75. Works GREAT. Every bit as good as a $600 treadmill (which I'm sure it originally was). I got lucky, and found one that was local-pick-up not too far away.

Re: Treadmill Recommendations?
What about scratching the treadmill, keep using that elliptical and then mixing in a good plyometric workout? A lot less cash, just as good of a cardio workout (it not better) and is more interesting.
