I know an LG electronics store owner (one of the few left in the state). He thinks that there will be some price cuts after the Superbowl.

TVs moved well for him here in Iowa during the Christmas season, but he heard that sales were less than stellar in other parts of the country. He is guessing there will be a need to get inventory moved and off the books later on.

Hopefully, this is the case and you can find a good deal.

I would bet that the prices will go down after the digital conversion. A lot of people will spend hundreds of dollars on new tv's than buy a convertor box for 20 bucks.

MAny brands of tv's have different "lines" of televisions. There are higher and lower end Vizio televisions, just like there are higher and lower end Sony televisions. For example, in a 40" lcd television Sony has the following models, all with different features and prece points. Vizio has the same thing, and I assume most brands do. The television you buy from Wal-Mart for the lowest price may be a "Sony", but it may be their lowest quality television and a piece of junk comparetively.

All those are currently manufactured and for sale Sony 40" 1080P televisions, so there is much more to it than just the brand. The guy at the Sony Style store even said they refuse to sell the "S" line of televisions in their store because they are crap.

I just bought the XBR6 for me bedroom and love it so far! I am of the opinion that Sony manufactures the overwhelming majority of the HD cameras used, so their televisions should be well fit to view the footage. Sorry for the long post, just my $.02 on televisions.

As far as timing goes, the longer you wait the cheaper it will be, just like all electronics. Period.

I've done a lot of research on this. I think best bets for that size TV is Vizio at Sam's Club.

I'd like a new Samsung for the bedroom too, but they will have to drop a few hundred dollars before that happens. Or Ripvdub will have to give up his PS3/office Samsung LCD for me to use (that won't happen).

So to answer the original question. Super bowl week will be a great time to buy a new TV. They run a lot of sales leading up to the big game. I did find a great deal last year in March though, so sometimes they just show up randomly.
Also, if you don't mind waiting a bit longer, Phillips Outlet runs a clearance of their refurb models every 6 months. That will be the lowest prices you will ever find. I picked up a $200 DVD recorder from there for $50 last year. It has been great. I'm not sure when the next one will be, but am thinking around February.

There is a 47" Vizio XVT 1080p 120hz LCD that I have my eye on at Costco for $1,000 after coupon. With Costco's 2 year free extended warranty, it's hard to go wrong.

I took a LCD projector back after 2 years and they didn't even ask me what was wrong with it.

Got two LCD Vizios. Great picture, and they are inexpensive. My only beef is the program guide for over the air is lossy.

what's the best to get if the tv is on quite a bit. with sports and kids, our tv is on all the time.

Theoretically plasma is subject to "burn in", but with newer models it's largely a thing of the past. I suppose if it was on with a static image long enough though it could still happen. I think the lifespan of plasma's and lcd's is going to be pretty similar generally speaking, probably around 50,000 hours, give or take.

I have two samsuns and love them both. My dad has a quality sony that doesn't match up either of mine. Go to vanns.com, not tax, no shipping and the best prices I could find anywhere.

If you are looking for a 26 inch, you will have trouble finding the best (Panasonic) in a retail outlet. It is only available on line through internet suppliers. I just bought a 26 inch Insignia from Best Buy (Made by LG). It's their store brand and was recommended by Consumer Reports. They have the same model with a built in DVD player, on sale right now, but we opted not to get this one because we figured the TV would long outlast the DVD technology since there will be a pretty big push to Blue Ray. We got ours for $349 on sale last week and we are real happy with it. It's hooked up to a Dish.

I want a buy a new one for my bedroom. Looking at a 26 inch LCD flat screen. Not in a big hurry on this.

Anybody have any good ideas on when some good sales will be running. Superbowl week a good time?

I'm probably going to get a Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic depending on which one will be the best deal.

Indeed. Am finding that. However did locate the Panasonic on Amazon.com.

Like I say I'll buy any of the 3, so will just depend on the deal I can swing.

Looks like I'll do some serious looking about Superbowl time or after according to the feedback, I've gotten.
