I am looking at purchasing a blue-ray DVD player. Any suggestions on what to buy?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the PS3 will get a price drop then I may finally pick up one of those. An ok game library, but I really would like to have the Blu-Ray more than anything else on it.
Several of them have Netflix streaming support; which is pretty cool. I like the Pioneer best, Sony second best. The LG and Samsungs seem fine, tend to be cheaper, and pretty feature rich.
I have the Panasonic and really like it.
I like the PS3 the best because Sony seems to upgrade it whenever new technology comes out. With that begin said, now that prices are down, you probably can get cheap one that will do everything you need it to do.
This is just my opinion but if you're watching this on something under a 35" TV don't waste you're money. Most people can't tell the difference between a good upscaled DVD and Blu-Ray on a small TV.
You want to get one with this included. If you don't, you will probably be kicking yourself later. Not sure if this is supported on PS3 or not. I have a PS3 and love it, but will be looking to add another BlueRay player later, and I definitely want netflix streaming support.Quote:

Gonna go ahead and throw out a pet peeve of mine. It's Blu-ray, not blue-ray. PS3 is nice if you can afford it, get one that's upgradeable definitely. BD-Live is a scam and a waste at this point, so if you find one that is 1.1 profile I'd get it as long as it's upgradeable later.
i love my PS3 for gaming and for the blu-ray. also, the PS3 story is the only place where you can rent HD movies. the only draw back is that you'll need a good connection as the files are around 4-5g.
i only have a b router right now so if i download an HD movie it will take a good 8hrs to complete. but i think if you have an N router or just plug your Ethernet cable straight in then it'll be faster.
