The military does contact your hometown/local media about events tlike this. It is up to them to print it or not.
Sounds like a brave guy. Hope he stays safe.

THANK YOU for posting. We are all proud and grateful.

Thanks for sharing this story. Let's hope with a new administration coming in there is more support for these brave men once they get back to U.S. soil.

Regardless of my political affiliation and my views on the war, I am grateful for his service to my country. He is serving our country and doing what he believes is best for this nation and I honor him for it. The War in Iraq is not just in the Middle East, it affects us in Iowa as well, and this story brings it home for all of us. Support our Heroes regardless of views on the war.

How about a little Paul Harvey "the rest of the story". You said he is from Des Moines. Is he a Cyclone? Can we get him some decals for his Chopper? Cy on Patrol.

It's common for a lot of Marines to switch branches. Some go to Navy Seal Training when they are done. Some switch to the Army. The Marine Corps is a grueling deal. Especially if you are a grunt. We train in the hardest places in the world. Marines are constently getting shot at all over the world. Basically a switch in service would do be done for two reason. The new branch has a less hazardish job or your body is broke from the Corps. I got out of the Marines due to the Body being broke from the Corps and did not want to stay in the Military any longer.

Thank you for your service and sharing this story.
As for the hat... I'm not 100% sure but I seem to recall reading that helicopter pilots consider themselves as beind descended from the calvary, as such they wear the cowboy hat.

Re: I want to get a story out.
We seem to get a lot of former Marines in the Army Guard and I love it. My 1SG just retired last weekend and was a former Marine and the guy was great. I only had a year with him but he was by far the best 1SG I have worked with. I really like getting 1 or 2 former Marines in my senior NCO slots as the level of discipline they command is truly a blessing. I have been told by a few that they choose to go this route as a way to "relax" and still be within the Military.

Second, Cavalrymen have an obligation to beautiful women. We don't believe in prostitution, we do what we do for the betterment of the nation, and a CAV Trooper never accepts money for sex.
I need to post a pic of my CAV hat as soon as I get back to the house. I'll try to be wearing clothing when I model it, but you know how things are.
BTW - Calvary is where Jesus gave his life for our sins. "Cavalry" are the guys who just drank all the beer in your fridge, satisfied your wife for the first time in her life, and made the cat pregnant.

Phaedrus?
It is probably because I just am not "with it". I have a brother-in-law that has been a Seabee for years, and my questions for him don't stop. He always answers them, but I'm sure he's annoyed. Anyway, I think what the service people do is simply amazing.

Calvary may be where Jesus gave his life for our sins. However on the 8th while god rested... The Marines Corps took over and WE have been running the show ever since....
