Chrome is worse than Firefox only because of extensions (and a couple of other minor things...full page zooming, for instance - which is in the latest beta).
Almost anything is better than IE 7.

Why are you paying for Norton? Check out the ratings for the free antivirus programs AVG and Avast. Avast updates itself automatically every time the computer is booted so it is a good choice for those not geeks.
Firefox is good stuff. I only use IE to download and install programs and to update Windows. It is always a good idea to have two browsers on a computer. If one is having problems, you can always use the other. I have yet to find a conflict between IE and Firefox.

If they can port the extensions from FireFox to Chrome - I'll be there.
I've got no idea if that's even possible, but it might be. Chrome is a hopped up version of webkit (I'm just guess this - I've not had a chance to really play around with either of chrome or webkit)
