Quit my job on Friday

For those that are interested:

I was working at Fort Leavenworth, writing doctrine and training curriculum for the Army, basically waiting for a certain job to come open, when without warning, the State Department gave me a call, to come work for them in Afghanistan. My report date is 15 February, so I'm rushing about getting Visas, physicals and various things prepared.

My last visit to ISU will be 31 January; my in-laws gave my wife and I tickets to the WBB game, and we'll be there cheering for the Cyclones.

My tour there is for a year, but this other work situation is aware of my State gig and wants to reengage at the 3 month point, and possibly pick me up at that time.

I'll be sure to update CF on my adventures, and just bought a Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera to try to get some pics to post here.

The coolest part of this job, is that I will be acting independently, under my own direction and will be expected to see most of Afghanistan "in the raw" if you will. I'm not a big fan of FOBs.

Why just Visas? Won't a Mastercard work? I take it that they don't accept American Express?

So now your going to be working for Hillary?

I have both a brother and sister-in-law that work for the State Department. Both are currently attached to the US embassy in Moscow.

Stay safe and make the most of it. I had a friend who served two tours there. He said a lot of the country is like stepping back in time 500 years. Seriously. He also said that a lot of Afghans are wonderful people. At the least you will be blessed to live in interesting times.

I hope you are familiar with the phrase "God watches out for fools, drunks, and children." I have used this to my advantage most of my life. So act stupid, immature, and drink a lot and you should be fine, just like me!:yes:
