He's a young kid who worked harder than just about anybody in the world to represent his country at the Olympics. He gave up basically every comfort and social pleasantry to represent the USA. He was the very model of hard work and commitment. He suceeded more than anyone else ever has. Then he did something a little stupid while blowing off some steam.
The MOCK outrage over this is stupid. Nobody really cares. We pretend to care because we're told we're supposed to. I hear the cries of "what do we tell our children now?" If this is your biggest worry, I'd trade lives with you in a heart beat. You think your kid doesn't know someone personally who does or will smoke pot. That's who you should worry about---the stoner who skips class to get high....not the world class athlete who made a dumb boner move.
Get over your fake shock and anger America.

I guess I'm getting old or something but I think Kelloggs made a good choice. Just because someone is a good athlete doesn't make them a good spokesman. With that said, I don't think he was a good spokesman to begin with. Have you ever seen the guy on TV? He 's an idiot.

Re: Phelps & Kelloggs
I only saw him once on TV... and he didn't actually say anything. They just had him standing there...
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -
Re: Phelps & Kelloggs
Not to take away from what he did, don't get me wrong. But he makes a much better "face of something" than a spokes person

Re: Phelps & Kelloggs
Don't get me wrong...I couldn't care much less about the guy. I just hate the fake outrage over it all. Like I should care, like if he was still the Kelloggs spokesperson I wouldn't buy their cereal or something. Companies waaaaay overestimate the power of the stars they have associated with them. I never in my life has bought something or even remembered a product when comparing things because of a star.
Now, if the guy was a rapist or something....yeah, drop him, tell us about it, it's a news story. Originally Posted by JonDMiller Dosry, You know what? I think I'll agree with you :) Originally Posted by bos You sir are a legend. -

I don't have a problem with Kelloggs dropping him, it's not like they are required to pay him what is probably 7 figures to represent them.

Re: Phelps & Kelloggs
I find the US Swimming's ban to be a little bit of a joke. They said that they "had to come down hard on him because he's such a role model and we had to prove a point." Really? Did Phelps actually have any swimming events planned for the next 3 months? I highly doubt it, especially considering the "6 month break" Phelps said he was going to be taking following the Olympics - as in he wasn't even going to be getting in a pool. That 6 month period is only ending now, and it's not as if he needs US Swimming's permission to go jump into the pool at the nearest YMCA. This suspension was a total PR move with little to no substance behind it.

(MacGruber and Weekend Update are really the only legitimate reasons to watch SNL anymore - sad, really. Well, I guess the digital shorts every once in awhile, but even those are extremely "hit and miss." Even the musical guests suck nowadays)

I have a two year old.....I haven't been awake to SNL in over a year....unless I was getting up to go pee. Originally Posted by JonDMiller Dosry, You know what? I think I'll agree with you :) Originally Posted by bos You sir are a legend. -

The new laser cats with Steve Martin was pretty funny.

Re: Phelps & Kelloggs
Phelps will be ok, in fact he is now going to star in his first major motion picture co-starring with Cheech&Chong in "Smoke on the Water."
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:

It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -
Re: Phelps & Kelloggs
Let the guy smoke some grass. Big deal, who hasn't.
Its not like he is taking crack cocaine, slippy-flippys, jelly stingers, trick sticks, bing bangs or flying willards.

Then he did something a little stupid while blowing off some steam. And that hard work got him paid to the tune of $50 million. Most millionaires sacrificed a ton to get where they are. But most are smart enough not to light up in public when you know people will have cameras. He apparently isn't.
Either way, it's Kellog's choice to drop him and for a company whose product is consumed by a ton of kids, I think its a good choice by them.
