Interesting. Harvard at #1 is no surprise, but I am kind of surprised that we have a higher yield than schools such as UC-Berkeley, Cal Tech, William & Mary, USC and others.

That's because people applying to those school are also applying to the Harvards and MIT's of the world. Those who apply to Iowa State are usually area kids who usually have their mind already set.

My son is a HS senior this year and we are going through the college application and choice process right now. He applied to 9 schools and has heard back from 2 so far (both acceptances...one being ISU).

This is certainly an interesting way to judge "popularity" but I really think that yield is a better indicator of reputation...which is why a school like Harvard has 79% (if I recall the article correctly) of those accepted choose to enroll...because if you can get into Harvard you do it...or so the saying goes.

ISU is the lowest overall rated school that my son applied to but I was astonished that the acceptance rate at ISU is 89%...pretty tough to get a flush letter from ISU I guess...I would like to think ISU is a little more selective but I guess not.

What is the total enrollment right now (undergraduate and graduate) at ISU...does anyone know?

Some schools like USC and Miami (FL) get a lot of kids that apply on a wim because they think it would be a "cool" place to go. However, many times the parents think better of letting junior or the little princess head off to LA or Miami for college if they indeed get accepted.

The people who get accepted to Cal Tech get accepted to M.I.T and I'm sure they go there instead. California has plenty of schools to choose from, and William & Mary is probably the 5th most popular school in Virginia behind UVA, Virginia Tech, James Maidson, and George Mason.

Being a state school ISU is required to accept anyone that is in the top half of their graduation high school class.

We toured Duke and it is truly a campus of snobby dorks that really think they are better than others because they are at Duke. Having said that, they are one of a handful of top CBB programs that seem to truly take the academics of their players seriously as opposed to just trying to game the APR.

this was actually me back when i was a senior in high school. I applied to USC thinking it would be a cool place to go and that i absolutely loved LA. I got accepted to both ISU and USC and in the end, i decided that my heart lay with the cyclones and iowa in general.

21,004 undergraduates

Percent of female undergraduates: 42 %
Percent of male undergraduates: 56 %

What are the other 2%! I didnt know there were that many he/shes at ISU
