It was fun seeing both sides. Then I joined the 734th Maintenance BN, and they were preparing to field SINCGARS. Blows me away. I had forgotten about the "PR(I)C(K)-77s". A scene from "We Were Soldiers" (based on Vietnam) using the "same" equipment that we used, early on when I wore a uniform, decades later, is kind of disturbing.

Myself, I don't bungee jump or sky dive, but if it's strange and edible, it's in my mouth. I love discovering new kinds of food. I guess it's a by-product of growing up in Northwest Iowa, in a German/Scandinavian culture where the most common seasoning is "bland" and "overcooked."

No comment other than take care over there. I've come to think about you whenever I read something about Afghanistan in the paper or on-line.

On a related note, the Dari word for cat is "Pishok". And here I was, thinking that was a Klingon insult....

Re: "Barf" in Afghanistan
So you worked-out outside this morning? No hour long elliptical? Talking about ellipticals, I was at the gym the other day and remembered your post about being on it for an hour, so I thought to myself, if Phaedrus can do it, so can I. Made it an hour, was sweating bullets, but surprisingly not that sore or tired. I should try those things more often, I'm usually a bike and treadmill guy, but I kinda liked the elliptical.
As always, another great post, and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family for a safe return.

With the elliptical, be careful starting out. You can easily tweak your hip flexors, and if you can put too much stress on your knees, if you let them slip out over your toes.
But it's a great way to burn fat.

Phaedrus agreed to have one thread on his travels and stories. It is easier on him and us (mod team). Thanks for being understanding Phaedrus.
There is a one hour redirect in place to this thread from the others.
