There is a good chance of 4-6 inches along and south of 80. As someone previously stated the lastest model runs have hinted at a southward shift, this is possible but I will believe it when I see it. Tomorrow will be very important in terms of temperature and cloudiness.

If you forecast based on 'the trend is your friend' theory, this storm should drift North right up to start time and it will continue to slow down as well.

The 12Z GFS still has DM on the NE edge of about .7 inch of precip (over 24 hours) which could be 6 or 7 inches of wet snow.

This mornings forecast discusion out of the Des Moines national weather service office had this written up as a done deal with Thundersnow and everything. Made for a very eye opening read this am..

Even if this one misses and gets the SE tip of Iowa, there are chances of rain/snow every 3ish days going forward from there as more 'disturbances' are lined up behind it. Hint, I wouldn't be planning a vacation to NoCal over the next two weeks unless you like lots of rain

Forecasting snow totals is very challenging. The models have a hard enough time pinning down the location, timing, and amount of liquid precipitation but snow is even harder. An inch of liquid precipitation that falls as snow can range from 10 to 20 inches. So errors in the liquid precipitation forecast get magnified 10-20 times when making a snow total forecast.

Add in the somewhat late return of La Nina, and we could yet have a good deal of snow before we get to spring...now that we've finally gotten rid of most of it.

It will be a big storm. They were calling for a little bit of snow earlier in the week and now they are increasing it. When they do that it means a big one is coming.
