    This is actually nothing new. The History Channel actually did a show on this once. During WWI the US gave the soldiers the "****-poor" M1918 Chauchat instead of the new, viewed to be "far superior" M1918 BAR because the government feared that the BARs would fall into the hands of German soldiers.
