Who/What are Iowa's Best HS Sports Dynasties?

I want to talk about this on my radio show this week..

What teams do you think are the greatest in Iowa HS history? Boys and girls.

Some examples along the lines of what i am looking for.

Palmeroy-Palmer in boys hoops
Harlan in HS football
Don Bosco of Gilbertville in wrestling

Also, please post why you think they deserve mention...

I come to you because you are the folks that are from the small towns, the schools that produced these dynasties, and are more familiar with the specifics and nuances of these locations than any one person can be. I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Dowling Wrestling used to be an incredible power in the 1980s. Bob Darrah was the coach back then. I am not sure of how many state titles they won or wrestlers that won titles, but I am sure the information is out there.

JDM - define dynasty. How long a period of time does it take? I like what you had as a prelim list....those are some big hitters with decades of dynasticness.

Others: Bettendorf/Valley in FB, and Norway in Baseball. Ankeny in Girls BB.

Ankeny girl's 4 straight titles.
Norway Baseball.
But nothing compares to Skinner and Pierson in Basketball.

Dynasty is a pretty nebulous term...I am just curious to see what people think.

I mean, a school winning something like three straight titles is awesome, but that's not a dynasty, to me. Now, if that school went on to win nearly 70 regular season football games in a row, with a few state titles mixed in, that is different.

That sounds like West Branch :)

Palmer boys and their 103-game winning streak. That team was amazing!

Ankeny Girls BB, not only 4 straight 4A titles, but pretty much the whole time coach Dejong has been there. He's basically the Bill Fennely of Ankeny Girls BB

Football - Harlan (11 titles), Emmetsburg (9), Bettendorf (7)

Wrestling - Waterloo West (17), Lisbon (14), Emmetsburg (12), Fort Dodge (11)

Shouldn't schools that can "recruit" be put in their own category? Everbody knows it goes on, don't kid yourselves.

Norway Baseball

Harlan's run in the major boys sports was VERY impressive

Roosevelt Cross Country? Not sure, just remember they had a pretty good run I think...

Linn-Mar used to have an awesome football team back in the 80's and early 90's.

Linn-Mar boys basketball is getting close. Four straight tournament berths, going for a fifth tonight (Tuesday). Two championships, one second place, and one third.

Iowa City High football has been good in the past as well.

Xavier soccer both boys and girls.
