Analyze Iowa State Sports
I would like to hear what peoples ideas are now that the season is over or almost over on the following:
Wrestling
Football
Womens Basketball
Mens Basketball
I would like to know if we are going in the right direction with all the sports, and if so if the expectations are what we actually expected. If Pollard is going to pull some more rabbits out of his hat. If the new coaching staff is what we hoped it would be in football. Its questions like that I am searching answers for in these sports. I know there are people out there that have a kool-aid on there mond and will answer quickly. I am hoping for people to really think out the question and answer without drinking koolaid.
Thanks in advance
I believe we are doing great with what we have. I also believe that we wil really show major improvement next year in all aspects.
Re: Analyze Iowa State Sports
I feel as though our wrestling team is always underperforming. WBB could not be better. MBB is in horrible shape. Football seems promising but no guarantees yet.

-Women's basketball is still rolling. We have a great coach.
-Wrestling does underachieve a bit, but we'll see how the NCAA's go. Program is in fine shape.
-Men's basketball is in bad shape. Next year could be good, but year 5 looks like another "rebuilding year." Hopefully we make some hay next year.
-Football is down and will take awhile to get back to a bowl game.
Overall: Not happy with the state of ISU athletics at all. Depressing state of affairs, really. Thankfully we have one of the better women's basketball coaches in the country.

You must not ever be satisfied with anything then.

It'd be nice finishing on top of Iowa once in a while...
Re: Analyze Iowa State Sports
Wrestling may underperform slightly, but we're still a national powerhouse and should be proud of it. There's only one school in the country who wouldn't be happy with where our wrestling program is and they just so happen to be located a few hours to the east.
Women's basketball is a solid program with a great coach and well-above average attendance. Would still like to see us make the jump from a top-20 team to a legitimate contender one year. Overall happy.
Football has relapsed to mid-90s type futility. Hopeful about the future though. Just hard to imagine us ever seriously competing with the powerhouses in the south half of our conference. I'm still the kind of fan that is happy with a shot at the north and a warm-weather bowl game around new years.
Basketball is pathetic. I'm starting to realize how spoiled I was when I was in school there (96-01). It's hard to remember what it felt like to expect to win games and expect to land recruits. We went from being a top-10 team two years in a row to being the laughing-stock of the Big 12 in a matter of years. So sad...
Here's the biggest problem (not that I'm telling anyone anything they don't already know)...sports we currently have success in right now are not what matters to most students/alumni/community. It pains me to say this because I'm proud of them and don't want to diminish what these kids do, but at the end of the day volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, and women's basketball just don't matter to most people.
Football and basketball are everything. Based on football and basketball over the past 3 years we are the second worst BCS conference team right now (trailing only Colorado) based on winning percentage and number of wins.
