I just got told last night that I am approved to adopt a 3 month old beagle/hound mix. Her name right now is Haley but I have a cousin with that name and I want a different name for her. We are picking her up on Saturday so I have a couple of days to figure this out. Right now my top choices are Trice and Ruger. Please let me know what you think of those names and if you have any other suggestions that would be great.
This is the first time posting a picture so if it doesn't show up will someone help me out in that department as well. Thanks

Maybe Jackie? I like incorporating ISU into dogs names. Trice isn't bad at all...
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
If she responds to the name, I'd leave it as is just for the sake of the dog having an identity crisis...
I think the dog's young enough to avoid an identity crisis.
Besides, some dogs will respond to any name that you say with a pleasant voice. I'm convinced that one of my old dogs never knew that he had a name. He responded to tones of voice. He didn't know what any words meant, except maybe "walk," but he took most words spoken near the door to mean that.
He was a dog that a friend gave to me. Ironically enough, his name was Hawkeye.
The foster parent that is taking care of her said that a name change wouldn't be a problem because she hasn't been apart from any dogs enough for her to get called by her name by herself so she doesn't recognize it yet.

We renamed several dogs over the years, they all turned pretty neurotic.
Tell your cousin it's an homage.
Agreed. Even as young as that, dogs don't generally react too well to having their name changed.
Our first dog didn't have a name when we got her, and she went without one for about two weeks. My mom just started trying different things, but she didn't respond to almost anything. She tried "Sheila" (Australian slang for a young woman) and got a full-on turn of the head and eye contact. She tried some other names, got no reaction, and then tried Sheila again- pretty big reaction. There we go; dog is named.
Our second dog already had a name and was about 4 months old. We tried out other names, but she didn't respond to them, so we stuck with her original.
I agree with the suggestion that you try 'Bailey' instead of 'Haley'! Good name for a dog, won't confuse the dog, and isn't your cousin's name.
True and Valiant
I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Victory before honor.
I've been told 2 syllable names are best with dogs. Most commands (sit, stay, etc) are 1 syllable and it helps the dog tell them apart. By the time you get to 3 syllables apparently the dogs are pretty much ignoring you.
"ruger" seems like a male dogs name, she kinda looks like a "brandy" or a "sadie" to me
besides, if shes got much beagle in her, she'll be a little nuerotic anyway ... might as well have a name you like/
