    Gas Grill/Smoker Dilemma

Need some input from you guys…

Right now, I’ve got (2) choices to work between:

Option #1: Buy fairly nice gas grill (~$400).

    Option #2: Buy a low-end gas grill (~$200) and a low-end gas smoker (~$200).

You guys had any success with any low-end grills I should know about?

I’ve got a super cheap charcoal grill that I’m not getting rid of, but it’s annoying as H.E. double hockey stick.

    Re: Gas Grill/Smoker Dilemma

I got a CharBroil from Lowes about 2 years ago. Electric start, 3 burner, stainless steel (don't really care about that). The biggest thing was the nice ceramic grills..

Can't complain about it aside from the side burner for pots or pans worked for about 2 months. Never really use it - but it's the principle of the thing, ya know.

Got it one of Lowes big sales - already put together. I want to say it was 300+, or right there.

Don't know if you'd call it low-end. They make smaller, cheaper. But it's cheaper than Weber and the like.

FWIW, before that I had a pretty basic Kenmore from Sears that lastest about 10 years. Really couldn't complain about it other than it was single burner and I do like the 3 burner feature I got now. And those ceramic grill plates are nicer (don't rust), stay cleaner and are easier to clean.

I'd wait a few weeks til the nice weather really hits and they'll be on sale all over the place.

I bought a Ducane Affinity a few years ago, and I'm really happy with it. It's higher quality than the perfectflame and charbroils you'll find at the big box home improvement stores, but not much more money. It was created when Weber bought Ducane, and is the cheapest grill you can get made by weber. I'd highly recommend at least giving it a look.

I would invest more in the grill because I would use it more than the smoker. Just depends on your needs.

Last summer I did purchse a charcoal smoker and those can be found cheaper than the gas versions.

Hell yeah! Grilling, smoking there isn't anything better. I've done steaks, chicken, ribs, pulled pork, turkey even pizza. And I haven't lit up my propane grill in over a year. People assume that since it is charcoal, it will take a long time to get going, but really, all I do is add charcoal, put in a starter brick and light it. Come back in 10 minutes and it's up to about 350.

Gonna pick up my new grill in a couple weeks. Going with the Weber Genesis S-310 model. Can't find anyone that has a bad thing to say about it.

No propane grill will ever sear steaks at 1000 degrees. My Big Green Egg is hands down my favorite toy, and the best gift my girlfriend ever gave me.

Use the tax cut and buy topline for both. It is an investment in the economy.

    Re: Gas Grill/Smoker Dilemma

My dad has had a Traeger for about 10 years and absolutely loves it. He's used it a lot, from ribs to fish.

He also owns a gas fired Weber. Uses a small tank of propane and it works out pretty well getting the charcoal going steady. I think its called the Weber performer.

I use a keg grill that I made. Works fantastic!

    Re: Gas Grill/Smoker Dilemma

I have a $500 grill and a low end gas smoker. Love my grill, but want to upgrade my smoker soon. I got a cheap gas one cause i had never smoked anything(well food that is) before and needed practice. The gas one works well, but can get blown out on windy days., so im gonna look for a charcoal one here soon. Ive had it for 5 years. The food turns out GREAT on the gas BTW, no difference in taste or quality.
