    Air Conditioning / Swamp Coolers

It's starting to get warm in Houston (sorry Ames / IA folks) and I need to cool an upstairs room: 10' x 11'.

Swamp coolers - do they work? How about in a high humidity environment? How Big a water container is required? 10 Liter / 20 Liter?

Portable AC units: seems like I'd use a lotta Watts for cooling a small room.

Re: Air Conditioning / Swamp Coolers

If you are in a dryer climate, swamp coolers work great. Here in Colorado, the humidity is so low that a lot of houses only have a swamp cooler. However, if you are in a humid environment the swamp coolers effectiveness is limited by the humidity.

I could show you a psychometric chart illustrating my point but that may be a touch overkill.

Thanks CO; I just moved from Denver to Houston, and only owned Humidifiers in Denver because it got so dry in the winter my nose would bleed.

Maybe a portable AC unit is the way to go here in Houston.
