You could always try powerline networking. You basically plug an adapter into two outlets in your house and plug them into your computer and router.
I also use this down in the basement for my PS3 connection even though it has wireless built-in. It's faster by using powerline than wireless. I also bought a $15 7 port hub so now I run powerline------>hub----------> 7 different connections (Directv, PS3, Slingbox, etc)
